Guest guest
om namo bhagawate rudraya generally 12 inches width 12 inches length and 24 inches height are used as small mandap for worship at home. mandaps are used for keeping idols and shiv lingams and any other precious worship objects like saligram, rudraksh, yantras or any other sacred item. idols or shivlingams upto seven cm are good for worshipping at homes and above that height are better only in temples or religious places because an idol or shivlingam above that height needs daily poojas of various kinds on a regular basis and also needs some sanctity to be maintained. mandap is not used for keeping photos. on all the four sides of the mandap, it shall be free. these days readymade mandaps with three sides closed and only front side open are available which is not good. for doing special poojas like satyanarayanvrat, varalakshmivrat or any other once in a year poojas, you can place the photo in the mandap and do that pooja for that day. you must ensure that the corners of the mandap do not get cobwebs by cleaning it with a neat dedicated cloth daily as i found such cobwebs at pooja place bringing badluck to the natives and rahu gives malefic affect on the natives. if cobwebs are found in the poojaplace, it is a suresign of serious health problem in that house and in some cases an imminent death as well. so, one shall strive not to allow cobwebs in the place of worship. in praise of lord shiva arjun Dear Ganeshji,Arjunji will be the right person in this regard, I donot have much knowledge in this regard.Om namah shivaya,Divakar.--- LG <lagan29 (AT) (DOT) co.in> wrote:> dear members> > in order to make a mandap for the pooja room at> home, i recollect having read that it has to be made> to specific dimensions. what exactly are these> dimensions . does anybody know the dimensions for> different kinds of mandaps. maybe divakarji or> arjunji could throw some light on this please.> > i need to get a mandap done with three domes what> are the dimensions to make one like this> > regards> ganesh> > > > India Matrimony: Find your partner now.Tired of spam? Guest guest
Thanks for your reply Arjunji. I have a lot of small size photos of various deities which cannot be hung on the wall and necessarily have to be placed on a small platform. How do I place them in the pooja room if it cannot be kept in the mandap? Please clarify. If shivling needs to be worshipped at home, then what procedure needs to be followed ? Some of my queries are a) What material should the shiv ling be made of ? Should it have Nag also? Should there be an arrangement for constant drip of water on shivling? b) What pooja for shivling needs to be perfomed daily and how many times per day? c) If abhishek needs to be performed, how it needs to be done ? with milk or water using sankh? d) What oil needs to be used for lighting the lamp ? In general, I have heard that any idol worship at home mandates daily abhishek , pooja and also follow strict code of discipline to be followed by the members in the house. Can you please enlighten us on this matter? Does it mean that idol worship at home requires stringent regulations than image (photo) worship? Guest guest
om namo bhagawate rudraya there is no hard rule such as not keeping photos in mandap. you can keep all those small photos there in the mandap, if you do not have any small idols and saligrams. worshipping of a shivalingam above seven cm needs to be maintained in a very disciplined manner and on a regular basis. but for homes, i suggest a smaller shiv lingam, specially the crystal one. no nag or heavy rituals required for abhishekam at home. just do the abhishekam with water on six days and with milk on mondays, place a bilva (bel) patr, if not tulsi patr, place a flower, apply little chandan, offer incense stick, camphor and naivedyam. you can also keep a 108 rosary made from the wood of bel tree. even though bel patr and bel tree is liked by lord shiva, the bel patr represents goddess lakshmi and whosoever worships bel tree or wear a rosary of bel beads, the person is blessed with wealth. similar to tulsi beads rosaries, good quality bel beads rosaries are also available at an affordable price of around or less than Rs.50 per mala which i supplied to many. some people also use this bel beads rosary for chanting om namah shivaya and other shiva mantras which are good for shiv bhakts. only one abhishekam in the morning is required in a day. there are so many known and unknown rules for worshipped idols for an ordinary layman which is why i recommend worshipping the photos as the best form of worship without any worries. in praise of lord shiva arjunLG <lagan29 (AT) (DOT) co.in> wrote: Dear Respected Members Thanks for your reply Arjunji.
