Guest guest
Dear friend om namo bhagawate rudraya this transit is going to be good and worship on that day would invoke the blessings of guru to make you a more saatvik and religious person. in praise of lord shiva arjun ps: some information from other sites is pasted below for your information. Guru (Jupiter), the Lord that brings us all good things is moving from Virgo (Kanni Rasi) to Libra (Thula Rasi) on 19th September, 2005 and is going to remain there for the next one year. This shift is going to bring in several good things and fortune to all. ALANGUDI : The presiding deity here is Sri Aabathsagayeswara or Aranyeswara, a Swayambu Lingam, and the Goddess is Umai Ammai. There is a separate sanctum for the special deity Sri Dakshinamurthi. Alangudi is the temple for Guru (Jupiter) and is one among the Nava Graha Stalams. Worship of Guru Worship of Guru results in a cure from ailments affecting the stomach and helps one to ward off his/her sins, helps him/her in gaining strength, valour and longevity, etc. He grants the boon of parenthood and education. Kind-hearted Guru is considered as the dispenser of justice and can be known only by a proper study of the Vedas. Thursdays are considered to be the best day for the worship of Jupiter. The yellow-coloured precious gem, called pushparaaga (Topaz), studded in the ring is capable of warding off the malefic effects of Guru. The presiding Lord of this planet is Lord Dakshinamurthi and his nature is watery. His metal is gold. Kondai Kadalai (Channa dhal) is offered to Guru on Thursdays to beget his favours. Temples for Guru Alangudi - Aabathasagawara Temple (Guru Sthalam) The shrine of Guru Bhagavan (Brahaspathi) is in Alangudi - Tamilnadu, 17 km. from Kumbakonam enroute to Mannargudi near Needamangalam. This temple is held sacred to Guru - Jupiter and is known as a Gurustalam. The transit of Jupiter between the Zodiac signs is celebrated with festivities. The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Aabathsagayeswara or Aranyeswara, a Swayambu Lingam, and the Goddess is Umai Ammai or Elavarkuzhali. There is a separate sanctum for the special deity Sri Dakshinamurthi. Being a Guru Kshetra, Thursdays attract a large number of pilgrims and special pujas are performed. There are about 15 Theerthas (water bodies) in the temple. Guru, the preceptor of the devas, is held in high esteem in the temple. There are many stories associated with this temple. The namesake of Alangudi, as per mythology, while the celestial milky ocean was churned by the Devas (celestial demigods) and asuras for elixir (amirtham) poisonous fumes from the snake Vasuki hindered the celestial task. Lord Siva swallowed the deadly poison (Aala Kaala Visham) for deliverance. Thus giving rise to the name Alangudi to this temple and the Lord came to be called Aabathsagayar (Saviour) Lord Siva as a boatman helped Sundaramurthy Naayanar (Samaya Kuravar) to cross the river Vettaru, which was in spate, to reach this shirine. The boat capsized hitting a rock and Lord Siva seated on his Rishaba Vahana helped Sundaramurthy Naayanar to reach the temple safely. Sundaramurthy Naayanar received his Gnana-upadesam after his darshanam of Lord Siva in the form of Dakshinamurthy at this temple. Lord Ganesha subdued Gajamuhasuran who disgraced and gave the Devas and he is thus worshipped in this temple as 'Kalangaamal kaatha Vinayagar' (Lord who stood steadfast). Goddess Parvathi undertook severe penance and married Lord Siva and hence this place is hailed as Thirumana Mangalam. This temple is the Parivara sthalam for Madhyarjuna Mahalinga Peruman. This is the fourth amongst the Panchavarunya Sthalas. Vishwamithrar, Thirumal, Brahma, Lakshmi, Garuda, Ashta Thikku Balagas, Ayyanar, Veera Badrar, Mukunda Chakravarthy, Suvasanan, Sundarar have worshipped at this temple. Worshipping Guru and Lord Siva at this temple can cure one from physical illness and provide progeny, good education, valour and longevity of life. The temple is kept open from 5:30 in the morning till 12 noon. The temple usually remains closed during the noon hours, and reopens at 4 p.m. The temple closes in the night after the last pujas are performed by 8 pm. Shrine for Guru at Thiruchendur Temple Tiruchendur is also one of the sacred places to Guru, since Lord Muruga was honoured here by Brihaspati and the Devas after their victory over Surapadman. In commemoration of the victory, the place was named Jayanthipuram (the word Jayanthi denotes victory). Shrine for Guru at Suryananr Koil near Tanjavur This temple is considered most auspicious amongst all Navagraha temples. Only in this temple Guru keeps facing Surya. , "Priya Pillai" wrote:Can someone tell me the significance of Guru Peyarchi? What would one attain on this day when worshipped with full belief.
