Saibanisaji & Saidarbar team wishes the readers of THE

GLORY OF SHIRDI SAI A HAPPY DIWALI—01-11-2005

Ashwin/Vadya 13, 1910: (Naraka Chaturdasi day- the day

before Diwali) Sai Baba pushed His arm in to the

brightly burning Dhuni to save a blacksmith's child.

Killing of Narakasura: Narakasura ruled the kingdom of

Pradyoshapuram. Puranas have it that Naraka, son of

Bhudevi, acquired immense power from a blessing given

by Lord Brahma after a severe penance. Under his rule,

the villagers suffered a lot of hardship as the demon

tortured the people and kidnapped the women to be

imprisoned in his palace with his invincible might.

Unable to bear the tyranny of the demon, the celestial

beings pleaded with Lord Krishna to save them from his

torture. But Naraka had a boon that he would face

death only at the hands of his mother Bhudevi. So,

Krishna asks his wife Sathyabhama, the reincarnation

of Bhudevi, to be his charioteer in the battle with

Naraka.

When Krishna fell unconscious after being hit by an

arrow of Naraka, Sathyabhama takes the bow and aims

the arrow at Naraka, killing him instantly. Later Lord

Krishna reminds her of the boon she had sought as

Bhudevi. The Narakasura Vadh by Sathyabhama could also

be taken to interpret that parents should not hesitate

to punish their children when they step in to the

wrong path.

The message of Naraka Chaturdashi Parva is that the

good of the society should always prevail over one's

own personal bonds. It is interesting to note that

Bhudevi, mother of the slain demon Naraka, declared

that his death should not be a day of mourning but an

occasion to celebrate and rejoice. It is said Lord

Krishna had an oil bath to rid himself off the blood

spattered on his body when Naraka was killed.

The tradition is followed and people offer prayers on

the previous day of the Diwali to the vessel in which

water is being heated for having bath. Hindus light

fireworks, which are regarded as the effigies of

Narakasura who was killed on this day.

100. If a person is slave to desires, he will become

slave to all. A person, who overcomes the desire,

will be spiritual and everybody will respect him.

101. The person who has not caused any pain to

creature or human being will never think of pain in

the hell as he has not given pain to anyone.

102. Helping undeserving people and protecting the

poisonous creatures, will definitely cause harm to

you.

103. Being truthful is thousand times better than

performing rituals in the name of God.

104. It is advisable to carry out the works which are

under your control rather than under other's control.

105. Anger is the root cause for all destructions in

the life. So try to control it.

106. The Deer will be attracted towards sound.

The Elephant will be attracted towards its

sexual desires.

The insects will be attracted towards the

flame.

The Butterfly will be attracted towards the

sweet smell of the flower.

The Fish will be attracted towards the taste

of bite and inviting troubles in their lives.

Can anybody imagine the problems of human beings who

are having all the above qualities?

107. There is no meaning for a donation if it lingers

in your mind all the time.

108. If a human being is living in this world only for

eating, then there is no difference between human

3. FOOT STEPS OF THE HOLY FEET –15

EXPERIENCES OF SAI.BA.NI.SA WITH SHIRDI SAI

Let us recapture the incident that happened to Shri

Appa Sahib Kulkarni in the year 1917 as highlighted in

the 33rd chapter of Sai Satcharitra. His wife narrates

to him as to how she has donated Re.1/- to a fakir in

the name of BABA. Shri. Kulakarni was not happy with

his wife's doings and he desired to part with Rs.10/-

if he were to come across the fakir again. Indeed he

could succeed in locating the fakir and unknowingly he

parted with the amount as desired by him This fact

establishes well that SAI knows all the thoughts

reeling in our minds and hearts from time to time and

accordingly organizes the events to take place, to

build up one's faith gradually.

I wish to submit that I also underwent a similar

experience and intend to share with my fellow

devotees. I got married on the day of festival of

colors i.e. Holy in the year 1970 in Temple premises

of the deity 'SRI KANYAKA PARAMESHWARI ' located in

Secunderabad. lt has become a routine practice for me

to visit the temple with all my family members on the

day of our wedding anniversary every year. It was the

year 1991 and as usual we reached the temple. An old

man resembling Sai approached me for dakshina and I

gave him a Re.1/- and went inside the temple for the

rituals. The priest was busy in reciting manthras and

my mind was pre- occupied with thought that, it being

day of importance in my life I should have offered

Rs.10/- as dakshina to the old man.

We completed the prayer and were leisurely sitting on

a bench chit chatting about our past events and

milestones. A Sikh sanyasi stood before us and

introduced himself as a servant in a GURUDWARA of

Nanded and desired some financial assistance. I

recalled my thoughts a little while ago and happily

parted with Rupees ten as desired. I for the moment

felt that Sai himself has accepted the dakshina as was

evident from the typical smile he has thrown on me

while leaving. The smile resembled the one I regularly

see on the huge photograph of SAI adorned in my house.

BOW TO SAI - PEACE TO ALL

4. SAI IN DREAMS:

http://www.ebeacon.indiainabook.com/

These are the dream sequences and messages as received

by SAIBANISA From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF

SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this Feature will help

in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from

his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

19-01-1994

Today's dream acted as an eye opener for me. I was

encountered with a staunch opponent in my official

life. Sai appeared in his form and invited me to his

house. My inner consciousness was not allowing me to

accept the invitation. Sai appeared in his stature and

I could not say no and I decided to go. I follow him

and had to pass through a large mango orchard full of

green mangoes to reach his house. The height of the

trees was low and it was difficult exercise to go

through, without getting hit by the mangoes on the

face and head. My endurance was fully put to test. I

had no option but to reach the main door by crawling

all along, which I did. The officer said "You have

come to this stage without aspiring the fruit, now

shun the hatred once for all and enter the house". My

face turned unpleasant. I got up from the sleep.

"I decided to shun the hatred for my fellow beings".

Love for the fellow beings is the prime requirement as

love begets love.

22-01-1994

Yesterday I was sick. I prayed Lord Sainath to keep me

away from the sickness. Sai said "it is common to fall

sick for the physical body and equally true is to

undergo mental agony at times. Keep cool; eat simple

food and some times even the sour fruit from Jambolona

tree. Never hurt anybody's feelings and injure them.

"What so ever you do to others will happen to you

invariably".

You will be repaid in the same coin.

23-01-1994

Today I prayed Sai to advice me as to how I should

increase spiritual power"?

Your spiritual awakening will be on rise when you come

across –

- And differentiate between an ideal person committed

to one woman and a womanizer.

- Overcome the hatred developed on coming across an

old man on the verge of dying but still unable to

overcome the weakness for woman except pitying.

- On learning to appreciate the greatness of

individuals based on

- On realizing that life is not just eating, sleeping,

having sex and realizing that it is something beyond

that.

Search for something special and the inner urge to

know the purpose is a step towards spiritualism.

5. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

"Shashi": shashi_31

10. Uniqueness of Sri Sai Baba and his Teachings

Baba says- `that God is in the heart and soul of every

religion. The universe is His form'. Hence Baba

advocated all humanity should live like one family. He

expected goodwill and tolerance prevails between all

as human beings.

More than any specific teaching, the mere influence of

Sai Baba's presence led to goodwill and tolerance. It

is said that for revitalizing the practice of Dharma,

that Holy men of Supreme intelligence and wisdom are

born, from time to time.

Buddha and Mahaveera are a few examples. The advent of

such renowned personalities has helped in destroying

many meaningless old practices that were vogue till

then.

A man who has realized his true-self has to realize

his essential Oneness with God.

It is worshipping God, invoked in any form.

We must all know that whatever form we worship, we

worship only God. The way we approach God may be

different. Sri Sai Baba says: `The planets may be

many, but the Universe is one; countries may be many,

but the world is one. Every worship is received by God

whatever be the name or the form of worship.

God is only one, whatever name you pray.

SRI MAHA BHAGAVATHAM—SRI SHIRDI SAI SATCHARITA

17) Sri Krishna was going with all his followers

through dense forests. They were caught in the fire

that engulfed all of them. Sri Krishna saved all of

them by swallowing the surrounding fire and flames.

On one particular day in Dwarakamayi, the fire was

raising high in Dhuni, scaring away the devotees

seated there in. Baba understood the situation and

brought the fire under his control with his satka

(wand) passing the necessary instructions looking in

the directions.

18) King Indra was angered with Yadhavas and subjected

them to the nature's fury by creating heavy rains,

high velocity winds etc. The Yadhavas promptly sought

Lord Krishna's intervention to save them.

Lord Krishna lifted the The Govardhana giri and

protected them by directing the

yadhavas to take shelter under the lifted mountain

On a fine evening Shiridi was targeted by cyclonic

weather. People of Shiridi turned to Sainath to save

them from the impeding danger. Sri Sainath came out of

Dwarakamayi and passed commands to the nature to calm

down. Soon it was seen that rains and the fury weather

receded.

SANATANA DHARMA –NEWS FROM ABROAD:

Diwali in Mauritius

Diwali is celebrated with great enthusiasm at

Mauritius as this country have great Indian crowd. The

Diwali celebrations at Mauritius are as good as in

India. The festival of lights- Diwali is celebrated in

October/November. Diwali marks the victory of Rama

over Ravana and also commemorates Krishna's

destruction of the demon Narakasuran. Earthen oil

lamps are placed in front of every home turning the

island into a fairyland of flickering lights.

Mauritius is a beautiful landmass full of picturesque

landscapes and enchanting spots. Mauritius accounts a

63% of Indian majority of which 80% follow Hinduism.

Hence, celebration of almost all the Hindu festivals

in this island is a common phenomenon. In Mauritius,

Diwali celebration is an age-old tradition. Beautiful

rows of twinkling candles and lamps of all sorts are

lit all over the island to celebrate the return of the

hero of the Ramayana, Rama, from his 14 years of

exile.

Besides celebrating the victory of good over evil and

light over darkness, the little flickering lights also

symbolize the beginning of summer. After the morning

prayers, Hindus share sweets prepared specially for

the occasion with family members, neighbors and

friends.

Diwali in Japan

Japan, the land of the rising sun also celebrates

Diwali (Deepawali) as the day, which awards happiness,

progress, prosperity and longevity in life. The

festival here is celebrated in a unique way that is

not common in India. Here the people go out into the

orchards and gardens and hang lanterns and paper made

hanging structures on the branches of trees.

Dance and music continues throughout the night.

Putting on new clothes and going for boating and broom

cleaning of the house are also some of the other

related activities of the Diwali festival. The places

of worship are decorated with beautiful wallpapers to

bring in the festive mood and the auspicious beliefs

related to the festival.

Diwali in Trinidad and Tobago

The Diwali celebration has a unique flavor here in

the Caribbean island nation.

The festival day is regarded as a national holiday.

Diwali, otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, is

one of the most anticipated events in Trinidad. The

day is marked by prayers, feasts and the lighting of

thousands of diyas (small clay pots filled with oil in

which a wick is immersed and lit) all over the

country.

In the Hindu community, there are two stories of the

origin of Diwali, and in the weeks leading up to the

festival they are acted out in full costume in

open-air theaters in villages all over Trinidad.

Employees and even government ministers dress in East

Indian garb and variety shows featuring aspects of

Indian and Hindu culture are staged.

The climax of Diwali however, is the lighting of diyas

after sundown - a delightful experience that should

never be missed. In yards, open spaces, staircases,

roundabouts and porches, diya s are lit by the

thousands. They are usually placed on bamboo stalks

bent into fantastic shapes and designs. In villages

where there is a strong Hindu presence it is common to

see whole streets decorated in this manner.

If visiting Trinidad during Diwali, it helps to have a

vehicle to travel to many of the areas where the

glittering displays can be seen. In some villages, one

may have to join the throngs of people walking through

the streets in order to get a first-hand view of the

lights and to receive sweets which are handed out.

Diwali in South Africa

South Africa is located at the southern tip of the

continent of Africa. It had the largest immigrant

Indian community in the world. The immigrant Indians

account of almost one million in the country. But most

of them are concentrated in the eastern regions of

Natal and Transvaal of the country.

Due to the majority of the Hindu population, a number

of Hindu festivals are celebrated here. The Festival

of Diwali holds an important place in the festival

calendar of the region. The Diwali celebrations are

more or less same to that of India. Most of the Hindus

here are from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamilnadu and

continue to follow their regional variations of

Hinduism.

Hindus Celebrate Depavali in Trafalgar Square

news.webindia123.com

LONDON, ENGLAND, October 17, 2005: London's famous

Trafalgar Square was transformed over the weekend to

enable all Hindus based in the British capital to

celebrate the "Festival of Lights," Deepavali. On

Sunday, crowds gathered at Trafalgar Square to watch

dancers perform and visited stalls set up to give out

information on the festival. During Deepavali, houses,

shops and public places are decorated with lights,

including mustard oil filled earthen lamps called

diyas. The diyas are placed in rows in windows, doors

and outside buildings to decorate them. The lamps are

lit to help the Hindu Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi, to

find her way into homes of people. The festival also

celebrates the return from 14 years of self-imposed

exile of King Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman

to Ayodhya. The festival, which usually lasts for five

days, celebrates the victory of good over evil, light

over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. In

Britain, as in India, the festival is a time for

spring-cleaning the home and for wearing new clothes

and most importantly, decorating buildings with fancy

lights. The date of Deepavali is set by the Hindu

calendar and so it varies in the Western calendar. It

usually falls in October or November. Business people

regard it as a favorable day to start a new accounting

year because of the festival's association with the

Goddess of wealth. Deepavali is also used to celebrate

a successful harvest. The name of the festival means

"row of lights."

Florida Hindus Celebrate Navaratri

www.orlandosentinel.com

CASSELBERRY, FLORIDA, October 9, 2005: Hundreds of

local Hindus with roots from all corners of India and

across the world have been coming together at the

Hindu Temple of Greater Orlando to celebrate the

female side of divinity in a 10-day community festival

of color, folk music, song, dance and worship. The

annual fall festival, which began Tuesday, honors

different feminine deities representing facets of the

one supreme God for their triumph of good over evil.

The festival continues through Wednesday. The first

nine days of the event, marked by worship, dance and

devotional song, are called Navaratri, which means

"nine nights." It commemorates the nine-day battle and

ultimate victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon

Mahishasura. The 10th and final night, called Dassera,

is devoted to worship.

7. SAIBANISA OFFERS PRANAMS TO SAGE "AGASTYA

In SanatanaDharma, Agastya is a legendary Sage or

Rishi

The Vindhya Mountains that separate north and south

India from each other once showed a tendency to grow

so high as to obstruct the usual trajectory of the

sun. This was accompanied by increasing vanity on the

part of that mountain range, which demanded that

Surya, the sun-God, should circum-ambulate the

Vindhyas in the same way as he does Mount Meru. The

need arose to subdue, by guile, the Vindhyas, and

Agastya was chosen to do that.

Agastya journeyed from north to south, and on the way

encountered the now impassible Vindhya Mountains. He

asked the mountain range to facilitate his passage

across to the south. In reverence for so eminent a

sage as Agastya, the Vindhya Mountains bent low enough

to enable the sage and his family to cross over and

enter south India. The Vindhya Range also promised not

to increase in height until Agastya and his family

returned to the north. Agastya settled permanently in

the south, and the Vindhya Range, true to its word,

never grew further. Thus, Agastya accomplished by

guile something that would have been impossible to

accomplish by force.

Agastya was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. As with all

other Hindus, it was necessary for Agastya to marry

and sire a son, in order to fulfill his duties to the

Manus. Once he resolved upon doing this, Agastya

pursued an unusual course of action: by his yogic

powers, he created a female infant who possessed all

the special qualities of character and personality

that would be appropriate in the wife of a renunciate.

At this time, the noble and virtuous king of Vidarbha

(an area in south-central India, just south of the

Vindhya Mountains), was childless and was undergoing

penances and prayers for the gift of a child. Agastya

arranged for the child he had created to be born the

daughter of that noble king of Vidarbha. The child was

named "Lopamudra" by her parents. Upon her coming of

age, Agastya approached the king and sought the hand

of his daughter. The king was initially chagrined to

hear such a suggestion from a renunciate, but found

that his daughter, who had early exhibited

extraordinary standards of mind and character, was

insistent that he should accept the proposal. She was

utterly intent upon exchanging the palace of her

father the king for the forest-hermitage of Agastya.

Lopamudra and Agastya were duly married and lived a

life of extraordinary felicity.

One story about Agastya goes that once the demons had

taken refuge in the ocean and it was difficult for the

gods to vanquish them, so they went to Sage Agastya

for help. Then, after hearing the gods, the sage drank

the entire ocean water and withheld it within him

until the demons were destroyed.

The Lalitha sahasranama, which describes the 1000

names of the mother Goddess (Known commonly as Gowri,

Parvati or Durga), was first revealed to the world

when Hayagriva, a manifestation of Vishnu, taught the

same to Agastya. Agastya is said to have composed the

Aditya Hridayam, a hymn to Surya, and taught the same

to Rama just before the war between Rama and Ravana.

8. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:

kandalameerra

10/22/2005 18:02:19 -0600

I want to share two wonderful experiences of my mother

as requested by her. Last year once we had a very bad

ice rain and my mother slipped and fell very badly on

the road as she was going out. It was the last day of

the Dhanur Masam and I was reading my "Tirupavai" I

suddenly got a call from someone saying "your mom fell

down".

When I went their, I was so shocked and scared to see

that she could not stand and one 16 year school going

kid was holding her tight and a police came and stood

beside her to call the ambulance .. As I was so scared

I just prayed Baba. The police man said that she

probably has several broken ribs that's why she is

having so much pain that she could not even stand ..I

felt so shattered and so depressed I saw my mom crying

and my father worried ...I prayed Baba that nothing

should happen to her and I would write about the

incident on the internet and took his picture and left

to the hospital.

Then she was taken to the emergency ward, I sat

outside praying for her looking at the saibaba's

picture. After sometime the doctor came and told me

that he had examined her thoroughly and found no

fractures or bruises and she was absolutely fine to go

home and just needed rest and painkillers. After

coming come she felt very relaxed and had told me that

even she had prayed Baba that everything should be all

right and vowed to write the incident on internet.

In an other incident my mom had lost a very valuable

government document and she became so crazy and

helpless day and night she prayed Baba and she even

went to the extent of placing chits in front of Baba

and asked if she would ever find her document. Then

she got a chit which said that "YES". This morning we

went out to buy something and she placed her hand in

the purse and she found some paper and upon opening it

she found that it was the same document which she was

looking for... isn't this a wonderful incident. My

parents have searched the purse about 10 times till

now? How come she found it so easily today? All

because of Saibaba's grace. Sai Nath Maharaj ki Jai.

Om Sai Sri Sai jaya jaya Sai!!!!

>From the Files of Saidarbar:

Kamala Devi

My name is Kamala Devi. I believe Sai Baba as

my grandfather who saved my mothers' life. It was in

Feb 1998 when we came to know that my mother had

cervix tumor. The doctors said that it was in advanced

stage. I did not know what to do. On a Thursday, I

went to Saikrupa where every Thursday satsang were

being organized by Mrs. Annapurna Devi who is a

staunch believer of Sai Maharaj. On that day, as the

satsang was going on, Mrs. Annapurnadevi stared at me

with tears in her eyes. I felt that Baba was calling

me and went to her to narrate the suffering but

nevertheless Baba is sarvantaryami, without me saying

anything she asked me not to worry and that my mother

be alright within 6 months and that she has to take

Baba thirtham everyday 4 times and just keep faith in

Baba, I felt solace and I went to my mother told her

the great experience with her. My mother strictly

followed the prescription by Baba. To our rejoice in

june1998 we took a CT Scan for her and incredulously

the report came very normal that is there are no

traces of cancer. Hence I feel that Baba has given

gift to us and I am ever indebted to him. It is

ineffable to describe his magnanimity

Why is that the appeal of Shirdi Sai Baba's

charismatic personality is so irresistible to people?

I quote some of the reasons from a Sai devotee, B.

Ramanatha Rao of Madras. "He is easily pleased. No

hard penance, no unbearable fasts not even difficult

concentration or control of senses. In His words,'You

look to Me and I will look to you.' Can there be

anything simpler than this He left His mortal body

years ago yet even today thousands of devotees

experience His presence. No money is required to

worship Baba. He is pleased with fruits, flowers,

leaves or even water offered with devotion. You do not

even have to travel to Shirdi. He is wherever you are,

'even beyond the seven seas'. Udi from the dhuni

burning eternally in His Dwarakamaayi is the cheapest

and most infallible medicine for all diseases the cost

is only two paise shradha and saburi. His Satcharita

contains all the wisdom of the Vedas, Upanishads and

Geeta in the form of simple stories and anecdotes.

Reading them and following the advice therein one can

achieve liberation. Repetition of His name 'Sai' is

short and sweet. Last but not the least, He on

fulfilling your demands in this world, ensures that

you do not get caught up in the dangerous web of this

'sansaar' and takes you step by step to liberation."

9. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

Swamy" swamymain

10/8/2005 09:18:46 -0700

Sai Ram. Let us continue with the feast of Brahma Jnan

so lovingly served by Baba through that rich but

miserly gentleman (normally we don't use such good

epithets for a miser but because he was instrumental

in all of us enjoying that glorious spiritual feast,

he indeed deserves nice epithets). Sai Ram.

"After the dissertation was over, Baba turned to the

gentleman and said - "Well sir, there is in your

pocket the Brahma (or Mammon) in the form of

fifty-times five (Rs.250/-) rupees; please take that

out." The gentleman took out from his pocket the

bundle of currency notes and to his great surprise

found, on counting them, that there were 25 notes of

10 rupees each, seeing this omniscience of Baba, he

was moved and fell at Baba's Feet and craved for His

blessings.

Sai Ram. It is indeed the power of Maya that all

people who hear the greatness of Sai and come from far

are surprised to see His omniscience. That seed of

lack of faith is what constitutes the sense of

differentiation, the teli's wall between Baba and us.

Once we understand the true power of Sadhguru (which

is infinite), we will not be surprised at anything

that He does. In this case too, the gentleman was as

usual surprised to see that Baba knew everything about

him including the amount of money in his pocket. Baba

showed these powers to kindle the lamp of faith in the

devotees so that the darkness of their ignorance is

dispelled. Sai Ram.

Then Baba said to him, "Roll up your bundle of Brahma

viz. Currency notes. Unless you get rid completely of

your avarice or greed, your will not get the real

Brahma. How can he, whose mind is engrossed in wealth,

progeny and prosperity, expect to know the Brahma,

without removing away his attachment for the same? The

illusion of attachment or the love for money is a deep

eddy (whirlpool) of pain full of crocodiles in the

form of conceit and jealousy. He, who is desireless,

can alone cross this whirlpool. Greed and Brahma are

as poles asunder, they are eternally opposed to each

other.

10. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg

Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use

to play with children and used to tell stories to

them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be

entertained with good stories. For the last 2 years I

have told you about Lord Krishna's Leelas and Lord

Rama Story. Now I want to tell the stories what heard

in my child hood.

A FRUIT TREE:

A long time ago there was a village where many people

lived. Outside the village there was a large,

magnificent looking tree. It was always laden with

colourful luscious fruits. The travelers were always

tempted to eat these inviting fruits. But whoever

tasted the fruit of the tree fell unconscious after

some time. The village folk knew about these poisonous

fruits. They never went near the tree. But there were

four crooked persons in the village. They had never

done an honest day's work in their lives. When they

saw how the travelers lost their consciousness after

eating these fruits, they thought up a crooked scheme.

That way they would get rich quickly by looting these

unfortunate persons.

They dug up a pit under the massive roots of the tree

and covered it with shrubs so that no one would

discover the pit. They would sit there and wait for

some unfortunate rich traveler to come and lose all

his money to them. The tree proved a boon to them.

Soon they all became rich. The simple village folk

wondered how they got their wealth. Once they used to

live in hovels. Now they had grand houses. They

dressed in costly clothes. When they were asked the

secret of their prosperity they all evaded the

question. Nobody could guess that they had amassed

their wealth from the tree of the poisonous fruits.

One day a large number of merchants passed that way.

When they saw the large tree with its comforting shade

and mouth – watering fruits, they decided to take rest

under the tree. Now, the four hidden crooks were

watching them from their secret hideout under the

tree. Their joy knew no bounds. So many rich merchants

with all their gold and silver and rich merchandise!

They had superb horses too. Now they, instead of their

owners, would ride these magnificent horses. The whole

village would watch them with eyes of wonder. The evil

men waited with eager hearts for the merchants to eat

the fruits and fall unconscious. Soon these merchants

started plucking the fruits. They collected them in a

heap. Now they prepared themselves to enjoy these

wonderful fruits.

Just then another merchant happened to arrive there on

his horse. All the merchants welcomed him and invited

him to share the fruits with them. He looked at the

fruits and then at the tree and finally at them. Then

he asked them with contempt in his voice if they were

all mad. The merchants were stunned. They asked him

why he said so. So he told them that the fruits were

poisonous. How could that be! The merchant had not

tasted them. How could he speak with such authority?

The merchant explained, "My friends, you are all

merchants. You are supposed to be very intelligent and

discerning. Don't you see that the tree is just

outside the village? If these fruits had been edible,

do you think the village children would have left even

one fruit on the tree for you to eat? The fact that

they are still on the tree means there is something

wrong with them. Use your brains, men, and don't touch

these dangerous fruits!"

The merchants were impressed with the logic of his

words. Their eyes were opened. The merchant saved them

from a possible tragedy. They all thanked the man and

invited him to become their leader. Such a leader

would always be a great help to them. Then they all

decided that the tree was dangerous for future

travelers. So they all hacked the tree till it fell on

the ground. The four crooked men, hidden in the pit

under the tree had to run away. They were

broken-hearted. The source of their easy wealth was

destroyed by the wise merchant.

HEALING PRAYERS

Prayer may be defined as the solemn request made to

God or Gods or to someone in a position of power. It

can also be said that Prayer is a process of communion

with the invisible God who is a source of all powers.

If done in group it is a congregational or common

prayer. It may be for common good or specific good.

We are concerned with Prayer for Healing. Prayer done

for others is more effective. God will certainly be

pleased with such selfless service.

We know Charaka, a leading authority on medicine has

stated the treatments he mentioned in his book are all

intended only for those whose Faith in God was not

sufficiently powerful to affect a cure. If there was

such a Faith that alone would cure all ailments. He

has further declared "all diseases vanish by the use

of this remedy namely the utterance of names of

Achyutha, Anantha and Govind".

Sri Sai Satcharitra gives several examples to show how

Baba cured through Udhi and Prayer. I wish our Doctor

of Doctors Sainath Maharaj would respond to our

Prayers.
