Guest guest
of a consecration or kumbhabhisekam ceremony of a Siva temple, pots of water called kumbhas are installed in respect of each of the deities in the temple, the god of each is invoked to abide in the respective pot by the utterance of the mantras and by kriyas; regular puja is done to the kumbha as though it were the deity itself, and ultimately the kumbha water is poured on the image of the deity with appropriate mantras, the deity is replaced on the image by the mantras, and puja performed. Kumbha-puja is confined generally to such occasions. This ritualistic or ceremonial Siva-puja is again of three categories- the svartha(atmartha)puja, the kamya-puja and the parartha-puja.
