Guest guest
Dear Shivbhaktas, I have read the below posting from source rudraksha-ratna.com . Q. Does the Shivling have a particular orientation when one places it in the puja room? I was told by a temple priest that the lingam should be pointing north. This is what I observed in many temples too. But last Saturday we had been to a temple where the lingam was pointing westward. So is there any particular position or is any position okay? A. East and the north are the two acceptable orientations for the base of Shiva ling in any temple as stipulated in Agama Shastra. So the base Shiva ling is noticed either facing East or North direction in any temple. While the devotee, who is worshipping Shiva Ling is facing the East the base of Shiva Ling shall be oriented towards north dirction. When the disciple is facing north while worshipping, the base of Shiv Ling shall be oriented towards East. Base here shall mean the point from where the Abhishek liquid (Water or Panchamrit) flows out of Shiva Ling. My question is at home in the personal puja room, i can only face West. And the shivling projection can point East or North. I felt may be i can keep the shivling in the direction of North.Than worshipping this way is it ok. Also one of the shivling i purchased i think at some ends is not carved correctly, looks like slightly broken. Is it okay to worship this shivling. Also i wanted to know if ladies except the 5 days do Abhisekham. Can pregnant ladies also do Abhisekham to shivling. Regards, Kishore. Guest guest
Hari Om! Hari Bolo! Dear Shri Kishoreji Here are the answers: My question is at home in the personal puja room, i can only face West. And the shivling projection can point East or North. >> NO. Facing West and doing pooja with the "yoni-bhagam" facing north is not advisable unless it is a Bana Linga or Narmadeshwar Shiva Linga where the prathista samskaran's are not considered to that an extent. Also one of the shivling i purchased i think at some ends is not carved correctly, looks like slightly broken. Is it okay to worship this shivling. >> NO. Get a Narmadeshwara or Bana Lingam and do the pooja. The length of the Shiva Lingam at home should be less or equal to the the length of the thumb finger from its base. Also i wanted to know if ladies except the 5 days do Abhisekham. Can pregnant ladies also do Abhisekham to shivling. >> Ladies can do when the cycle of nature is not affecting them. Pregnant ladies after 7 months cannot even go by the Shiva Lingam. When you keep say a Bana-Lingam you have to observe strict discipline. Hope this helps! Subham Dinam Astu! Guest AuthorPM
See the Video of Avdhoot Baba Shivanandji He has laughed at all these myths which are prevailing in the society about not keeping Shivlingam at home it is really laughable that Pandits and Brahmins are scaring people and asking them not to keep ShivLangams at home. Lord Shiva resides inside the bodies of everyone he is everywhere SarvaVyapi how can you even think of not having Lord Shiva at your home when he is everywhere? Really laughable comments by people here. Lord is within me I worship him every day, I invoke him everyday, I am Shiva ! ShivaLingam is inside me ! Nobody can separate me from my Shiva ! I have lots of consecrated Shivalingams at home and I do not practice any particular ritual for them. Some are created with sand from Teerthams by women as Goddess Sita created. He lives with me with my family with my good and my bad. But he is with me and I am with him. OM NAMAH SHIVAY
