I was wondering about your above double-statement. If I have a piece of glass that is flawless, then no water, oil, or other thing can pass through that glass. But if the glass has a crack, which breaks the surface, then it can leak or be oiled. Emerald that are without surface-breaking inclusions cannot be oiled because there is no entry point for the oil to enter the crystal. Only emerald that are included with surface-breaking cracks can be oiled because the heated oil enters the crack and fills up the crack, thus hiding the crack, at least until the oil drys out. There is no use to oil a flawless emerald because there is no way for oil to enter the gem, and there are no ugly flaws to hide. This is all really simple to understand. My question is about your saying, "As for a Zambian emerald they cannot, I repeat, cannot be oiled." <---are you saying you have a supply of flawless Zambian emeralds that are free of surface-breaking inclusions? Are you also saying this is true of all Zambian emeralds? I'm a GIA graduate with 32 years in the precious gemstone industry in USA and Bangkok, and a member of the Thai Gem & Jewelry Traders Association. So obviously I am very interested in flawless Zambian goods. I could sell thousands of pieces right here from Bangkok, the World's Precious Gems Capital. Here in Bangkok there are thousands of Indian gem dealers all selling heavily to excessively flawed emerald. Hardly anyone has a single clean piece. They're all oiled too. Hey, lets do business!!! Guest guest
Dear Swee, Namaste!!! I assure you I have no bias about emeralds. It is very hard to find 3-9mm sized emeralds in jyotish quality (not below 85% clean in 10x loupe). I really do need a supply of good emeralds. Our clients don't care what country a good emerald comes from. If you can get clean, non-oiled, Zambian emeralds in Jyotish quality that would be a great help to me and our clients. I'm serious.
