Dear Swee,

Yes, hessonite is a garnet. And gomeda colors of malaya and spessartite

are also garnets and called Gomeda. Vedic times they didn't know the 4

garnet groups as different except in color. Like a hessonite, if GREEN,

is actually a Tsavorite - gem for Mercury. Both Tsavorite and Hessonite

are identical species and family (grossularite) of garnet, and only

differ in color.

Another question is an Orange Sapphire also used for Rahu? I think not

because Garuda Puranam mentions yellow sapphires as also being orange,

and other texts attribute varna to yellow sapphire, with the golden

orange called, "Kauranda" in Kshatriya Varna for Jupiter.

Best rgds,

Richard

Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Richard,

Namaste

The crimson-yellow Sapphire is Padparadscha (commercial name) described as

Karundaka in Garuda Purana could be akin to Kshatriya varna. Only the yellow

colour is.

What about the more reddish hue tinged with yellow, known as Kaasyaayaka

(also padparadscha)? Considering the fact that Jupiter and Mars are friends.

The corundum family came from Bala asura's skin - this includes the Blue

hues in Indranila and Somaanaka.

The darker shade of the Blue Sapphire (Mahanila - the special

cornflour-cobalt blue) comes from Bala asura's eyes. It is said that if a

person who sights these drove away Yama away, so it was buried. Do you think

these are buried in the Blue Hills in Jagannath Puri as it does state

exactly where they were buried.

What's your take on Karketana?

Love,

Swee
