Guest guest
Dear Sri Vishram, Raw gems, if flawless, are just as good as cut gems. But usually the rough stone has matrix covering as well as flaws near the surface. So in cutting, the idea is to remove the matrix and cut away the surface defects until you have a pure gem. If a gem is all full of defects then it is junk and unfit for jyotish use. In olden days they used to cut away the matrix dirt and then just polish the natural crystal facets of the rough form. So if you find a flawless diamond crystal that is uncut then it is already fine to wear (provided Shukra is a good influence on the wearer).
