Guest guest
Dear Sriman A.J., Hessonite is an orange grossular GARNET. There are 4 types or species of Garnet. And the orange ones, like Hessonite and Spessartite, are know as Gomeda by many scholars. I consider "Gomeda" to be both of them, as well as orange Malaya Garnet. Note: All the garnet species are "CUBIC" Crystal system.... and they are all "singly refractive". Orange or brown ZIRCON is not in the family of garnet and has little in common. Zircon is a species of gem by itself and is of the "tetragonal" crystal system and they are "doubly refractive.. " Some old gemologists, such as late Raj Roop Tank, and late S.M. Tagore, considered Gomeda to be "Brown Zircon." simply because some outdated Sanskrit-English dictionaries gave gomeda as "zircon". But these days we accept them all, orange Garnets and Zircons as Rahu ratna or Gomeda. Still, In my opinion, Hessonite Garnet is the King of all Gomedas... Best rgds, Richard http://richardshawbrown.com ---Dear Richard Ji, I wonder if you can enlighten me more on Rahu stone. I wrote to you earlier but it may not have been seen. Can you tell me more about these two Gems ? Regards A.J Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.
Guest guest
dear richard As far as i know word "gomedha" is never mentioned in garuda puran in context with rahu. some other stone name ( "karketan") is mentioned which rahu took away when bali's body was disintegrated. plz put light on this. sacred-objects, Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66 wrote: > > Dear Sriman A.J., > > Hessonite is an orange grossular GARNET. Guest guest
Dear Sriman, Namaste!!! Gomeda is name of orange gem colored like cows urine. People argure if it is orange zircon or orange garnet. I say it is orange garnet, in particular, the Hessonite garnet. This is because the name "Karketana" is described exactly like a hessonite. The gems each have more than one name, thus for Rahu we have the gem called Karketana, Gomeda, Rahu-ratna, etc., and in English name is any ORANGE garnet. Best regards, Richard sacred-objects, "DEEPAK" <dny789 wrote: > > dear richard > > As far as i know word "gomedha" is never mentioned in garuda puran in > context with rahu. some other stone name ( "karketan") is mentioned > which rahu took away when bali's body was disintegrated. > > plz put light on this. > > > sacred-objects, Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66@> > wrote: > > > > Dear Sriman A.J., > > > > Hessonite is an orange grossular GARNET.
