Re: Earth Goddess

Namaste

Bhuumi Devii (Goddess Earth) is the wife of Mahaa Vishnu. In

Varaatha Kalpa ( Age of the Pig) the Asura Hiranyaaksha carried the

earth and submerged it under water. At once Mahaa Vishnu took the

form of a pig and lifted the earth up with his horns. when the earth

floated on the water like a lotus leaf. Bhuumi Devii became please,

stood up in her charming figure. Mahaa Vishnu fell in love with her

and withe the brilliance of a crore of suns, had sexual union with

her for the period of one Devavarsha. It is from that time that

Bhuumi Devii became Mahaa Vishnu's wife. As a tresult of their union

a son named Mangala was born to them.

Ghatesha is the son of Mangala. Mangala has another name, Covva.

After the birth of Mangala, at the behest of Lord Vishnu, all people

began to offer worship to Bhuumi Devii. Maha Vishnu himself

worshipped her by reciting "Om Hriim Shriim Kriim Vasudhaayai

Svaahaa". After that this mantra became popular for worshipping

Bhuumi Devii. (Devii Bhaagavata, Navama Skkandha).
