Srimaddevibhagavat 11th Skand Chapter V

***************************************

O Kartikeya ! Now I will speak how to count the Japam ( reptition of

the Mantra ) with rosary. The face of Rudraksam is Brahma; the upper

summit point is Siva and the tail end of Rudraksa is Visnu

The Rudraksa has two fold powers : It can give Bhoga ( Enjoyment ) as

well as Moksa ( Liberation )........In stringing the Beads into a

Rosary it should be seen that the face of one Rudraskam is in front

of the face of another Rudraksam......and the rear part to the rear

part of the other. The Meru Bead must have its face turned upwards

and the knot should be given over that. The Rosary thus strung yeilds

success of the Mantra that is Mantra Siddhi

Worship the ( Rudraksa ) rosary with the Mantra of that Devata for

which it is intended

Chapter VI

Isvara said

O Kartikeya ! Kusagranthi, Jivapattri and other rosaries cannot

compare to one sixteenth part of the Rudraksa Rosary. As Visnu is the

best of all the Purusas, the Ganga is the best of all the rivers,

Kasyapa amongst the Munis, Uchchaihsrava amongst the horses, Maha

Deva among the Devas, Bhagavati amongst the Devis so the Rudraksam

rosary is the Best of all rosaries. No Vrata or Stotra is superior to

it

*****When refering to "face turned UPWARDS" is that up towards the

other beads in the mala or away from the mala. In other words is the

mala viewed with the Meru bead at the top or at the bottom.

Dear Somaji

Namaskar My Friend

Will try to explain by useing example of wearing Mala

Meru Bead is worn at back of neck

Then from what I am reading the rear part of the Rudraksa would be toward the

neck

The mouth part of the Rudraksa would be faceing away from neck and the knot tied

over this

Thanks and Take Care My Friend

It is the center bead of a mala.

The bead that is not touched while counting.

It is said to hold the energy of japa repetitions.

So if some one mentions a 108 bead mala ..it is really 108 plus Meru.

54 bead + Meru, etc.
