Muktananda on Rudraksha beads part 2 :

1. " PETER : How much impotance should one who is following the

Guru,'s path attach to scriptural injunctions and iformation ? For

example, the Shiva Purana gives much information, which you may not

have given to us,on the mantra Om Namah Shivaya. Also, about rudraksha

beads. How much of this are we to believe without consulting you ?

BABA : All that you have read so far in fhe Shiva Purana is true, but

you should read more. You should consider a scripture as a

whole.Generally speaking rudraksha beads should be strong and

genuine. They may be five or six-faceted.Whether they are big or small

does not matter much. All the technical details are mentioned

for tantric rituals, not for everyday use.For these rituals it is

necessary to wear certain numbers of beads on the head, neck,

etc.Likewise there are rules about mantra. All the rules about the

mantra are true and there has been much written about the ways to use

it.A mantra is repeated in different ways for different powers..... "

2. " GEORGE : Would Baba please explain the full symbolism and proper

use and care ofone's rudraksha beads, and why the rudraksha plant is

used for the beads ?

BABA : The answer to this question could fill a large volume. It wouid

be enough to say that rudraksha beads stand for Rudra and Rudra is

Shiva.According to the scriptures, one who wears rudraksha becomes

like Rudra. These beads are very pure......."

3. " The sages have said that rudraksha beads are like Rudra or

Shiva.Rudra is the one who destroys all miseries, all pains, dreams and

all mental fluctuations.Rudraksha beads also accomplish all that if

you have pure feeling towards them, and use them regarding them as

Shiva. They steady the mind, putting an end to its wanderings. While

wearing them you should feel that you are wearing Lord Rudra Himself

around your neck. That is the right attitude to one's mala....."
