Caring for rudraksha beads

Dear friends,

I have read the instructions at the Rudra Centre regarding proper care

for the rudraksha necklace they sent me but I'm a little confused

about one fact. The instructions mention that the necklace can be

cleaned using warm water and a little soap after which, certain oils

should be applied. One of the other comments made is that soap dries

out the bead and so one should not shower with the beads present

because, "as it penetrates the bead pores and spoils the bead."

I ask because I have been wearing my necklace on hot days. On those

days, I have been rinsing the necklace with running cool water and

then letting it dry in the sun or placing on a towel and padding the

necklace dry. Is that ok for the necklace?

How frequently do you need to clean beads that you wear frequently? I

know the beads are worn and used differently so I'm just asking for

some ideas.

Also, when I received my necklace, it had the most amazing fragrance

which I assume came from the incense used at the time it was blessed.

Could you please tell me what that incense (or oil?)is because it was

very soothing?

As you can tell, I tend to ask lots of questions. If my questions

become tedious or inappropriate for this group, please let me know :)

Dear Valerieji

Thanks for your many questions My Friend

Would like to refer you to our archives where these questions and many more have

been answered in the last year

If you have questions after reading the archives please let us know

Running cool water on beads and drying with towel is great........continually

showering or bathing each day with soap will dry out the beads.........cleaning

the beads with soap and water once each 45 days is OK because after they are dry

then we add oil to bring them back to Lustre

Look forward to hearing from you again

Thanks and Take Care My Friend

Dear friends,

Rudraksha care is very important especially when we use higher mukhi costly

beads. There is general tendency to wear the beads while taking bath. Tendency

of Rudraksha beads is to absorb water very fast. Though we make these beads

dry with a piece of cloth, we could dry only the external surface of the bead.

Evaporation of the inside water really takes long time. This spoils the bead.

It gets affected by fungus or insect attack very fast. The bead crcks after few

months. It is there fore better to remove it while taking bath. Sweating has

little effect since it is only from outside. Rudraksha bead endocarp or stone

we call has oil glands. It is therefore necessary to apply very little oil

externally after 2-3 days. I feel there is no harm in applying warnish to

protect the costly 'Patthari Rudraksha beads'

Hi.

The Beads seems to need oil.

Even beads that aren't worn and stay on pujas (altars).

Any essential oil will do although sandalwood is used most.

Like using any essential oil, you want to dillute it.

Rudra Center already sells the dillution.

Any dilluted oil will work, even massage oil from health food store.

Personally feel its the oiling thats the most important

If you go to the actual website of Discussion Group on the Home Page is a

"Files" section on menu. There is a File listing the Archive Subjects

alphabetically (that is due for updating next month :-D)

You may find some useful things there as Dharma Devaji mentioned.

Everyone seems to find what works for them regarding washing.

Regarding gifts..still say rudraksha malas and sphatik Shri Yantra would be

good.

Take Care

Kanti

Namaste Chandrashekharji:

We had a discussion here around in February pertaining to varnish and

rudraksha.

Please do not use it on your beads.

It will interfere with the electromagnetic properties of the beads and

basically render them useless.

A group member bought some beads that had varnish applied to them and

reported that they felt artificial, not like rudraksha at all. They were not

fake

beads, but all the

varnish had destroyed the life force in the beads.

Oil does have a wonderful effect. They can soak in a solution of fragrant oil

and mustard oil for several days if need be, but please..no varnish. The

devas will thank you again and again.

Dear Val

Ther is a temple called Guru Vayur in South India. They make a speciall prasadam

with a mixture of Sandal.camphor, rose petals etc.Mixing this with a little

genuine sandal oil would give a spiritually intoxicating fragrance to your

beads.

And the mantra is "Om Namah Shivaye Om"

Blessings to u
