There are four Navaratris each year that are specifically defined in

the Devi

Bhagavatam. They come every three months. The first one is the month

of Magh, in

January, and then comes the Chaitra Navaratri, in March or April.

The Navaratri

we are performing right now is for the month of Ashadh, in

June/July. In the

Fall comes Ashvin, in October.

These four Navaratris are specifically stated in the Devi

Bhavagatan: Magh,

Chaitra, Ashadh, and Ashvin. Today is the third day of the Ashadh

Navaratri,

and this is called the Vipataarini Vrat, the vow for Vipataarini --

another name

for Durga. Durgam means confusion and obstacles, any obstructions.

And Vipat

is any difficulty that we might face. Vipataarini is She who takes

away all the

Vipat. And the Vrat is the vow of worship.

In this Navaratri we send you all our blessings and love and best

wishes. May

the Goddess always protect you, and raise you to the highest

consciousness.
