Guest guest
If i'm not mistaken, 1 rattika is the weight of 1 bean of Abrus Precatorius (possibly the most poisonous bean in the world and definitely in the top 10 most poisonous substances). They were and still are used exclusively by jewellers because of their uniform weight. I don't have my Ayurvedic manuals handy to give you the exact weight but it's less than 1 carat. 1 carat is approximately 0.20 grams. Thus a 5 garat gem would be equal to 1 gm of the gem in weight. A karat refers to percentage purity of gold. Thus 18 karat gold means that there are 18 parts pure gold and 6 parts other metals used to make the composition more malleable. 24 Karat gold is pure gold but is too soft to make jewellery. Hope this helps! Suraj
Guest guest
Just found some souces on the web. 1 rattika = 0.59 metric carats = 0.118 grams (i.e, approximately 1/10th of a gram)
