Guest guest
Hi all I was talking to my Sastriji in India and he was telling me that people from Brahmin community who have not yet had their Brahmopadesam (Upanayanam or thread ceremony) should not wear Rudrakshas. Is there anything in Sastras that confirms what Sastriji said. Please clarify this question for me. My friend wants to wear Ekamukhi, but he has not yet had his Upanayanam and he is concerned about wearing Ekamukhi before his thread ceremony. Thanks Jagadeesh The New with improved product search
Guest guest
I can't remember the scripture, but I believe that it says that "the righteous and the unrighteous" should wear rudraksham. I would think that "unrighteous" might also apply to one who is not yet Initiated. Also, I think that the thread ceremony makes one a Brahmin, and there used to be rudraksha color recommendations for each of the castes. That is, there were prescribed rudraksham for people who never had the Brahmopadesam, at all. It is further written that the wearing of rudraksham preceeded religion and ritual. I can't think of anything else that I have read that might apply, here. I don't believe that I have ever seen such a prohibition. I hope that soemone will correct me on this, if I'm wrong. But, I don't think that I am. Westerners with no Hindu Initiations, whatever, benefit from the wearing of rudraksham. Guest guest
You're right! Mirabai also gave each participant at shaktipat and darshan a mala. The only two of the dozen or so people in the room had ever had the thread ceremony.
