I have spent much time doing sadhana in the Smashan, including the Maha Smashan, Manikarnika Ghat, in Varanasi. Sometimes I still rub my rudraksha malas in some cremation ashes I brought back from there. I also find it incredibly charging to leave the malas for some time on top of my Guru's padukas, on top of one of my Narmadeshwar Lingams (the bigger the better) or one of my large Parad Lingams.
