regarding the differences, when you have time to read:

There is never any 'wrong application' of rudraksha but with gems,

its better to consult a Jyotish astrologer before wearing them (try

Alan Scherr from our List here).

 

Unless one does not believe in being subject to what was 'written in

the stars' and maybe in this case, is thus 'liberated' from

planetary effects, it is recommended that Jyotish astrologers be

consulted. In applying gem elixirs or powders, consult an Ayurvedic

practitioner.
