Dear Barbaraji

Thanks for this Mitra.....no wonder couldnt find this in the

SriMadDeviBhagavat...... the words in the Subas Rai Book this arent exactly the

words in the

Holy Book translated by Swami Vijnanananda

Sometimes the transliterators for Dr Subas Rai condensed and added words to

the original translations that are not in the SriMadDeviBhagavat by Swami

Vijnanananda

Original reference says

verses 29 to 39

The Munis the Seers of Truth describe this holding on of Rudraksam as a very

great vow. He who makes a vow to hold one thousand Rudraksams becomes like

Rudra the Devas bow down before him. If thousand Rudraksams be not obtained one

should hold at least sixteen Rudraksams on each arm one Rudraksam on the crown

hair......on the two hands twelve on each

As you can see the person who wrote for Dr Subas Rai took some liberties to

change the reference books

The word Vrataa in Devanagari can be transliterated to mean vow however many

of the words in Sanskrit have multiple meanings depending on how they are used

So we can figure some of this out if we go to Sanskrit Dictionaries

Vrataa.....vow or rule of conduct.......observance according to rule........

as in fulfilling or performing a religious vow.........then.... as says in

dictionary........ most likely in a religious context this word can be connected

with the word Maha and you have MahaVrataa....if I have missed something here

someone will surely correct me on this

RahasyaVrataa......mystical vow....the mystic science of obtaining command

over magical weapons

Rudraksa Vrataa.......liberal meaning might be observance according to rule

of the worship of the Holy Rudraksa according to the Holy Books the Siva Puran

and the SriMadDeviBhagavat

Thanks for letting me know where this was found

Please let me know if I need to clarify more of this

hope this helps

Thanks and Take Care Mitra

Dear Dharmadev,

This quote is in "Rudraksa" by Subas Rai on page 42, and he is quoting, as

the book says, from the Srimaddevibhagavat, 11th Skand, Chapter VI, verses

31-32.

"Seers have narrated this mahavrata that after wearing hundreds of Rudraksas

one becomes observer of Rudraksa-vrata and is saluted by gods. He also

becomes equal to Rudra. In absence of hundreds of Rudraksa, at least sixteen

Rudraksas should be worn in each hands."

Do you know what Rudraksa-vrata is? I would like to know.
