Namaskar Barbara,

The thread was on Blue Sapphire. Alanji has many times also shared

his wisdom cautioning that this particular gem should not be worn by

certain zodiacal natives unless specified by a qualified astrologer

(see back posts from Alanji).

Generally in most cases, if Blue Sapphire is recommended to be worn

as Rings, they should be worn on the Shani finger, again unless an

astrologer advises otherwise.

Yes, sapphires come in other colors too, such as Yellow Sapphire,

White Sapphire, etc. Sanskrit names are Indra Neel and Neel Mani.

Hindi name is Neelam. In some mines, blue sapphire, white sapphires

and rubies are found, hence in some cases the mixture of colors in

the crystals of these gems. Ruby is harder than white sapphire

(Pukraj) and Blue Sapphire is harder than ruby. At times, a gem of

the corundum family may contain all three colors. Some pukraj may

have pink shades, ruby may have blue and neelam may have red. The

distinguishing factor is their Hardness.

Classification of Blue Sapphires

--------------------------------

Brahmin: A blue sapphire that is white or light blue or has blue

lustre is for learned and spiritual people;

Kshatriya: Blue sapphire with red tinge recommended for rulers and

those in administrative or executive positions;

Vaishya: White colored blue sapphire with deep blue tinge is for

merchansts and business people.

Shurdra: Blue sapphire with dark tinge is best for those of

the "Service Family".

Om Namah Shivaya

Hello friends - Another consideration is whether the stone has been heat

treated (which enhances color), which is the case with 95% of blue

sapphires. This heat treatment renders them far less effective than if they

were unheated.

So.... with gems, first you have to be sure that it is astrologically

appropriate and safe for you to wear.... next, it needs to be obtained from

a source that can authenticate it's natural color. Then, it must be of a

significant size and degree of purity and flawlessness, and then, it should

be worn on the correct finger and worn for the first time on the correct

astrological day and time, etc.

That is why I recommend either Rudraksha or some form of Navaratna for

remedial measures. Except in pretty exceptional circumstances, with little

or no complicated pre-conditions, you can really help balance yourself....

Peace,

Alan
