After you complete 40 days of wearing your mala immerse the Rudraksha in oil (mustard or sandalwood) overnight . regarding puja procedure you may like go to the link on rudra-centre http://www.rudraksha-ratna.com/htm/blessings/index.htm . the procedure is correct and can be followed easily. Actually the exact method I followed is given at http://rudraksha-ratna.com/htm/wearing.htm. I did all that on My first day before wearing it. Ever since, everyday I pray My Lord Shiva "Om Namah Shivaya" 11 times during my everyday prayers, except for mondays where I repeat the above 108 times. Where I went wrong was, not saying Beeja Mantra for atleast 9 times a day, which also I have taken care of by chanting 108 times for all mukhis in my mala, since last 2 days. This completes the recommended cycle of 40 days i.e. 40 x 9 = 360 jaapa/each, though it took me 44 days. I hope, I did it right(May Lord Shiva forgive my unitentional mistakes, if any.) Tonight I will also immerse the mala in oil(as you are suggesting), I don't have sandalwood oil but yes, I do have Uncooked Mustard Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil. However, I do mix in a few drops of sandalwood oil-- so the beads don't end up smelling like stale cooking oil. It's also wonderful for your skin-- I rub it in, when it drips onto my hands, while I'm treating the beads. I don't use mustard oil, because of the scent. But, it is said to be very good for the beads. Straight sandalwood oil is very expensive, and I've found the scent to be too strong. I've heard others recommend sesame oil, but I've never tried it. Guest guest Posted January 20, 2004 Report Share Posted January 20, 2004 dear Sundeep ji it is nice that you have started chanting the beeja mantras. as you said you had already performed the initial puja for the beads, there's is necessity to do it again after 40 days. if you wish you can do once again for your satisfaction. this will only give you more shakthi. regarding oil to be used, i prefer mustard oil for my beads. it cleans perfect. i dont find any reason to throw away the oil. after all you soaked holy rudrakshas in them. if not for cooking you can apply it on your body half an hour before bath. any more suggestions by anybody else ????? karisprowl <karisprowl wrote: BTW-- I do not keep the used oil.
