Dear Cyra

Well I too have heard both opinions on this subject of wearing/not wearing the

rudraksha at night.I do not wear them at night and wear them after my bath

first thing in the morning. With regard to women there have been contridictary

views of when to wear and when not to wear.

Well in fact you would be surprised to know that there is a temple in south

india--

Adi- ParaSakthi temple where women are permitted ( no restrictions) to do pooja

during the mensturation time! which is not the usual practise in many other

temples where women do not do pooja neither go to temples during this time!

I wonder what our other friends and simonji's views are on this subject ?

Dear friends,

Please advise me if it is permissible to wear

rudraksha mala and chant mantras during menstruation

for women. Also waht is the law about wearing it for

the call of nature. I have been advised by some that

since all this is god's plan for human beings

(menstruation and call of nature) it does not matter

but another group feel strongly against it.

Please give me your opinions.

Also, is it O.K to chant mantras for more than 108

times? What is the significance of the number 108?

Warmest regards to all.

Cyra

Namaste Cyra, Vipinji and Friends,

We've previously discussed this many times..... If you have time,

please look up the archives in the Files Section.. Meantime, I'm

not surprised about the temple you mentioned (thanks Vipinji) as

there are other Traditions in India (such as Tantric) that have no

restrictions regarding a woman's monthly cycle and allow them to

perform puja, etc.

There are also traditions such as Brahmins that prohibit women from

entering the kitchen, cooking or participating in puja or using holy

items during the time of the month as this is when they are

considered "impure".

Tantrikas of different schools whom I'd discussed this matter with,

all agree that its ok. But whether its ok or not depends largely on

what you would like to do, which belief you wish to adhere to or

which guru lineage you follow. Though I must also mention that in

the Srimad Devi Bhagatam somewhere, it is mentioned along the

lines "Do not wear rudraksham when you are impure". Whatever that

means is up to you to decipher the Twilight Language although it

also comes across clearly as 'no'. Please read other friends'

comments, analyse for yourself, then use your intuition to decide.

Om Namah Shivaya
