In the book "Yoga and Ayurveda" by Dr. David Frawley he states:

Opening the chakras is not a process for improving ones capacity in

the regular domains of human life, though it may offer this as a

sidelight, but for going beyond the ordinary condition to a higher

evolutionary state. The chakras can only be truly opened through

inner practices of pranayama, mantra and meditation. Outer aids,

from diet to gems, can be helpful but must remain subordinate to

these higher modalities for optimal application

The chakras work in different ways at different times for different

people.

Opening the third eye requires learning to live as pure insight.

The pineal gland in the physical body corresponds to the Ajna Chakra

in the subtle body.

The Nine Mukhi Goddess Durga Rudraksa influences the pineal and

pituitary glands when worn on the head in an Ajna Chakra Mala.

Mantras for the 9 Mukhi Rudraksa:

Om Hreem Hum Namah and Om Dum Durgayei Namaha

In the Subas Rai book Rudraksa it was found that the electromagnetic

low frequency modulated output signals by the 14 Mukhi and 12 Mukhi

Rudraksa could in turn reduce the alpha signal frequencies of the

brain inducing thereby the physiology of meditation.

In reference literature the 14 Mukhi Rudraksa has been called the

Deva Mani and it awakens the sixth sense to foresee future

happenings.

The 12 Mukhi Rudraksa is appropriate to wear on the head as this

Rudraksa represents the Center the Sun Surya and is said to be

miraculously effective.

An Ajna Chakra Mala designed with these 3 Rudraksa Beads will give a

meditative state in the physiology and influence the awakening of

the Third Eye.

To enhance this activation process with diet there are Ayurvedic

Herbs specifically for the pineal gland or physical third eye found

listed in David Frawleys book the Yoga of Herbs.

Basil

Elecampane

Sandalwood

Skullcap

He also states that Tumeric gives the energy of the Divine Mother

and grants prosperity. It is effective for cleansing the chakras

( nadi shodhana ) purifying the channels of the subtle body.

His Natural Soma Formula is found in Yoga and Ayurveda on page 202

and includes ashwagandha, shatavari, kapikacchu, arjuna, brahmi,

calamus, tulsi and licorice.

OM is the The Chakra Bija Mantra for the Ajna Chakra found listed in

Healing Mantras by Thomas Ashley-Farrand. His website is found at

Om NamaSivaya
