Vedic and Western astrologies are very different. Vedic astrology is siddereal,

rather

than tropical. The difference in the placement of the houses is

I-keep-forgetting-

how-many degrees.

Western astrology emphasizes th sun sign. Vedic emphasizes the rising sign.. so

one

must have one's exact time of birth. This is often hard for Americans, as times

recorded on American birth certificates are often inaccurate-- sometimes by

hours.

Both systems can be highly accurate, depending upon the skill of the astrologer.

However, Vedic chart interpretations take karmas from previous incarnations into

account. One indication is the Rahu-Ketu axis, which Western astrologers call

the

lunar nodes.

Another difference is that Vedic astrology offers remedies for unfortunate

planet

placements.

Having one's Vedic chart cast is rather like having a "playbook" for this

incarnation.

Thanks, K.

Hi all - yes, to add a bit to Vedic astrology.... it originates from the

cognitions of the enlightening seers rather than as a by-product of

philosophy and psychological archetypes. It is a feminine, lunar centered

system rather than a masculine, solar one. And, it also emerges from the

larger fiber of Vedic culture in a cross-disciplinary way, such that

astrologers were also Ayurvedic vaidyas (health practitioners) and

vice-versa. That is to say, Vedic astrology is an integral part of the

Vedic culture as a whole rather than in the West where astrology is

considered peripheral or renegade.

Hope this helps....

love,

Alan

I had mine done by the Jiva Institute, and it was right on target!!! I was so

amazed by it. Especially when it spoke of my health and inability to sleep,

Mine was so accurate, I woulda thunk somebody had been following me around with

a

pencil. :-)

You know, it's the DETAILS tha impress-- the first detail that impressed me was

that

the report specifically cited an accident that I'd had at age 7-- my broken

right arm. It

also correctly cited my father and mother's health problems, and the number and

gender of my sibs-- though it did get the birth order slightly wrong. It got my

profession and character right....even my appearance. I was amazed!
