Guest guest
Dear Dr. With due respect to your views , let me differ with your following statement - " ... from my understanding, taking any substance in through the nose and out the mouth is nasya, whether its water, oil, choornam etc neti is a specific technique in which the water enters one nostril and exists the other - using water (jala) or other substances as appropriate, e.g. herbal decoctions, milk decoctions, etc ...." Please remember Neti & Nasya although looks simillar are NOT SAME !! They are different procedures altogether for different purpose mentioned in different disciplines ! In Nasya, the idea is to instillation of any drug ( yes, at this point I am with you , whether it may be a Swaras, Choorna, Kwatha, Tail or Ghrita or even for that matter a plain water ! But it has to enter inside body through the nasal route. May be getting absorbed through Cribriform plate in the roof of the nose from where we may think that it might be having its way to Head region (Shiropradesha), as mentioned by our great masters - " Nasa hi Shiraso Dwaram .....!!" Whereas in case of Neti it is NOT so !! Please have a look on my last message about methodology of performing Neti as mentioned in Yogic Shatkriya as mentioned in ancient classical texts like Hathayoga pradeepika or Gherand Samhita & not mere by my own ideas about it. I really enjoy good meaningful & informative articles by you on this group. But when I saw this message by you ,I could not resist myself writing this mail. I hope you will take it in a good spirit. In advance I would be apologising you if you have ill feelings, please forgive me for the same. May God bless you ! Guest guest
dear dr. phadke no worries, i think we are in agreement - they are totally different procedures what i meant about nasya coming out the mouth is the reflex response in the upper pharynx, causing the patient to expectorate out the mouth - of course, with nasya, there is also some substance which is "absorbed" in the body, for e.g. into the brain, and is not simply washing out the nasal passages like neti thanks for your comments bright blessings! todd On 29-Apr-06, at 5:07 AM, ayurveda wrote: > Dear Dr. > With due respect to your views , let me differ with your > following statement - > " ... from my understanding, taking any substance in through the > nose and > out the mouth is nasya, whether its water, oil, choornam etc > neti is a specific technique in which the water enters one nostril > and exists the other - using water (jala) or other substances as > appropriate, e.g. herbal decoctions, milk decoctions, etc ...." > <*> ayurveda/ <*> ayurveda <*> Your
