dear shiv bhakts

om namo bhagawate rudraya

to put in right perspective, here are the facts.  lord brahma's son

is sage pulastya.  sage pulastya's son is visrasrava.  visrasrava's

son is ravan.  since ravan is brahma's great grandson he is also

called ravana brahma.  ravan has written ravan samhita which details

astrology, various mantras and also tantras for curing diseases.

the famous shiva tandava stotram is written by ravan only.  lord

shiva himself told that ravan is the greatest bhakt among all his

disciples.  in other words, the status of greatest shiv bhakt to

ravan was granted by lord shiva only.

several commentators criticise ravan for his astray due to his

eyeing another man's wife.  if this is the yardstick king of devatas

Indra is worse.  when indra slept with ahalya by deceit in disguise,

sage gautam has given various curses to indra including one that

indra would get half the sin of all humans who commit sin of

adultery.  so one can imagine how much sin indra might have

accumulated whereas ravan was granted moksha.

there are so many svayambhu shivlingas brought by ravan from mount

kailash and the same were worshipped by various sages, gods and even

kings of the medieval days.  there are some sects of veera shaivas

who rever ravan.  in the next mails i will detail about each

shivling brought by ravan and is now worshipped at which place under

what name.

in view of the above, i request all shiv bhakts to treat ravan as

the greatest shiv bhakt.

in praise of lord shiva and with best wishes

Sometimes they are completely conflicting, sometimes not.  So just

saying well it says so in such and such sastra, is not really a

reason to speak definitively on the subject for all people at all

times.  Though of course, if it works for you, you can always follow

what it says.

than the oral traditions of this information.  These written

scriptures were not meant to be studied outside of that Guru

Parampara because there are so many subtleties and things that need

explaining.  To further complicate that situation, not only are

there different versions of many scriptures, but different oral

lineages state different things as well.

the subject and what feels right for you.

Asura and describe him as inhuman and that he was punished.  Now

that is entirely true from one point of view.  But there are other

points of view on the subject.

>

> Another point of view looks at Ravan at one of the greatest

devotees of the Lord and a Great Yogi.  Asuras can be thought of as

another race, not just as demons.  Hey, Lord Shiva loves to keep

their company, so how bad could they be?  He did incredible Tapas to

achieve the Darshan and Boon of Lord Shiva.  He was always thinking

of Ram.  In fact, Ravan was such a great devotee that the Lord

Himself, Incarnate in a human form, came and gave him liberation by

crushing him at his heart area under His Lotus Foot.  Think about

that.  He didn't even just shoot him.  He placed his Lotus Foot, the

source of worship where His energy comes out, and put it on Ravan's

heart and released his soul from his body.  Hey, I'll take that

punishment anyday!

>

In a similiar fashion, some do sadhanas in the cremation grounds.

Some eat meat.  Some even use sexual acts as part of their sadhana.

Some make their whole life their sadhana.  So what is impure for one

is pure for another, dependent on the point of view.  It doesn't

make one person right and the other wrong.  Both are right, for

their own lives, which is all you can worry about and be concerned

with.  Live and let live.  Let us just decide what is right for us

and then do that.  Let us not comment on what is right for another

or tell them that they are wrong, unless they are come and asking us

for advice.  Then we can express our point of view and they can see

if it works for them.

>

> Are you the body or are you the Atma?  The Atma is part of the

Paramatma, so how could it ever become impure?  It can't.  The body

is just Bhu.  It is the Earth.  It will either become dirt again or

it will become Vibhuti/Bhasma.  Both of these are also pure--at

least from my point of view.
