Guest guest
Hari Om ~~~~~~~~ Namaste advaitin, What you write of the Lord's word is very profound ( BG Chap 2.47). As I read it, we have freedom (control) or adhikara ( the right) over action alone (or our prescribed duty) but never over its fruits. The fruits of action goes deep and has many roots, so the outcomes are not controllable by the individual, as no one action is independent in this entire universe we reside. Action ( karma) produces a result ( apurva). There is an in-depth conversation of this in the Chandogya Upanishad called the Vaishvanara vidya. It discusses just how profound an action is, and its connectedness to the entire cosmos. This is what Krsna knows, and is able to say without reservation. What Keshava [one with beautiful hair] says next (BG 2.48) is the instruction to be most effective in the actions you do perform without the binding influence karma produces e.g. vamana, samsara, etc. Sri Krsna says ' yogastah kuru karmani' - He instructs Arjuna to be established in yoga, or union of the SELF, Atman, or Brahman, then perform your allotted duty. This is the brilliance Govinda - He gives the solution to binding action…. Upon union with the SELF, the 3 gunas become balanced, some say dormant, and the sadhu acts without binding or bondage to the senses or accumulated actions. One acts [tyaktva sangam], abandoning attachment. What is produced? Samatvam, or evenness of the mind. Another name for samatvam is samprasada, or the composure of consciousness. Composure in what? One is composed or absorbed in satyam or Truth. Sa + ti + yam: sa=immortal + ti = mortal + yam = that which holds the two together. So, mortal and immortal , held together. By whom? The Universal SELF, Krsna. This is the beauty of the Gita, it is profound.. Om Hirm Hrishikeshaya Namaha! Pranams, yajvan ______________ > Te - you > Adhikara + Asti - have right to > Karmanye va - do karmas > Kadaachana - at no point of time > Ma phaleshu - have right on the results > Ma - bu - you don't be > Karma Phalahetur - the reason for the result > Te - Ma - astu - May you not be > Sangaha - interested > Akarmani - in avoiding work Discussion of Shankara's Advaita Vedanta Philosophy of nonseparablity of Atman and Brahman.
