Guest guest
Hari Om ~~~~~~~ Namaskar Frederico, thank you for your note... Yes, this tri-cuplet (3's) are seen all over, not to mention past, present, future; earth mid-region and heavens, and with food, how we digest it. I also see things in 5's , 7's and 9's. The 5 senses are most notable, yet the 5 fires are my favorites; They come to us through prana and without them we do not function. The 5 are mentioned in the Panchagni Vidya in the Chhandogya Upanisad. ( I type svaha after each out of respect, my that form of prana be satisfied!) Pranaya svaha eyes and the sun Vyanaya svaha ears and the 10 directions (dig bala) Apanaya svaha speech and fire (agni) Samanaya svaha mind and heaven Udanaya svaha touch and akasha (space) When all 5 (pancha) prana's are satisfied or in harmony, the person is in balance, and we ( the sadhu) contributes to the balance and sattva in the environment. This is very profound knowledge. This is the basis for feeding the Brahmin's, the jivanmuki, the sannyas; they are are representatives of Vaishvanara, and when food is given to them, we are feeding Vaishvanara for His satisfaction. Since He is 'the ALL' then we are bringing satisfaction and balance. Balance returns to the environment though this vidya or action. It is a blessed thing we can do. The last thing I have read is 16 kala's or divisions which is interesting... I will write if you care to discuss. I have also been reading the notion of waking dreaming and sleep. The Upanisads write about this state of sleep ( svapiti) for some time now and there is some intheresing ideas on what happens. Svapiti means one that goes or 'reaches' sva or the SELF. It is quite interesting. When one sleeps where the senses retire, or withdraw; It says 'Sata saumya tada sampanno bhavata' or one gets absorbed into the true being that one is. Then the question arises , if I am absorbed into the SELF, how can I came back to waking state in ignorance! This is a question we can ponder if we care to...Swami Sivananda gives a good explanination in his commentary on the Upanishads. pranams, yajvan Discussion of Shankara's Advaita Vedanta Philosophy of nonseparablity of Atman and Brahman. Guest guest
Namaskar Yajvan, Yes it would be interesting and enriching for me to know more about the 16 kala´s, if you don´t mind writing about them. It is also very valuable to have this knowledge about the fires. It is interesting that uneven numbers (1,3,5,7,9) have a special place in many esoteric systems. It was also very interesting to know that Svapiti or Svapna means "going to Sva" or going to Self. This is very interesting, I had not realized that the word Sva was there meaning this. Yet Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi described the 3 states as following: - jagrat (waking state): body and senses perceive objects. - svapna (dream state): mental creations are perceived as objects. - sushupti (deep sleep state): only the self abides in awareness withdrawn from any subject-object relationship. This is my understanding please correct me if I am wrong.. Yet even in this classification Svapna may mean "withdrawing into oneself" since it is a MORE SUBJECTIVE state that the waking state. In dreams, everything we perceive is mental creation so there is no such solidity as in the waking state. So in dreams we are somewhat closer to the Self than in the waking state (this is a very polemic statement lol). If you don´t mind I think also many members of the forum would greatly enjoy your exposure of Swami Sivananda´s explanation about why we come back to ignorance (Jagrat) after every night experiencing the Self. How can this be? Why it happens that the mind risess again and again, night after night, after deep sleep through dreams or directly to waking state? This is a puzzling question. In my opinion it is the Vasana´s which make the mind rise again and again. When the vasana´s are fully extinguished there is permanent absorption in the Self (yet I really do not know whether this is a desirable state or not, I am really drawn to many pleasures of the senses and the mind).
