Ordinance : The desire of the Lord in the form of commond and

prohibitions as expressed in the Vedas. So in the Linga Pr. Siva

says, "For she is not to be considered to be prakrti [matter], nor

jiva [life], nor vikrti [a secondary product]. My eternal five-

faced, holy ordinance which delivers the world from fear, proceeded

of old from my mouth" The Siva Pr. also, "Through this established

divine ordinance of Rudra alone comes salvation"

Or this name may be taken as "JNa", the knower- She is the person

who is the enjoyer of the gunas : The Linga Pr. says :"They say that

by the word jNa is meant the person, the enjoyer of gunas" According

to the Kosa "JNa means BrahmA, Mercury and a wise man" The Sruti

[svE. Up., VI. 2] "JNa is the death of the death, possessed of

attributes, omniscient".

She embodies the command or injunction of the Vedas.

Alternatively, the name may be read as jNa; here it would mean She

is the enjoyer of the Gunas.

Sahasranama, 1962
