Stress and muscle damage

Sat nam,

I've just been diagnosed with myositis, and given prednisone, which

medicine scares the heck out of me, but I've been using a cane and am

practially immobile, so feel like I have to try it. I don't have an

alternative medicine practitioner.

My question to the group [from whom I have receieved so much wisdom!]

is - can stress and muscle damage be related? My MD says he doesn't

know how the damage occurred.

I keep coming back to the thought that this happened immediately after

I'm experiencing much greater than 'normal' stress in my life -

although also came after a time when I began doing Kundalini Yoga

after a long absence which has led me to great happiness and balance.

So 2 contradictory things happening at the same time.

Wondering if anyone could shed some light about any relationship?

You know it is just hard to find info about things which is not

mechanistic in nature, and that is why I love this list.

Sat Nam Ellen,

the simple answer is yes, simply because stress is very hard on the

whole body and immune system. When you're stressed your muscles will

be ready for action (the body draws blood away from the torso and

organs and into the limbs to be ready for flight or fight). You also

release high levels of cortisol, adrenalin and other chemicals which

over time lead to fatigue of body systems.

Reducing stress and really relaxing is always good for reducing (or at

least not increasing) inflammation. You can also look at your diet and

start to learn which foods cause inflammation and which ones prevent

it so you can start treating yourself in a more holistic sense.

Your doctor won't be able to know exactly how the damage occurred

simply because there are so many causative factors in something of

this kind. Often it's not just one thing but an accummulation of

differrent factors over a long period of time. There may have been a

stressful situation that tipped your body over the edge but with

conditions like this it's usually been something that has been ignored

for a long time during the build up stage. Sometimes our bodies have

to shout very loud to get our attention! Listen to your body, take the

time out to start to properly nurture your body now by listening to

what foods it responds well to (start a food diary where you write

down what you eat and pay attention to how you feel, once you've done

this for a while you'll start to see patterns). It's only by accepting

your body's state now and dealing with what is rather than what was or

what could be that we can start to heal. We can only heal in the

moment because this is the only time and space we occupy :)

Perhaps Awtar will be so kind as to share with you what he knows about

reducing inflammation through natural means.

Sat Nam Ellen:

Re stress, balance, being in present time and recognizing that the

universe really loves us and all that is within.   I have injured and re-injured

myself this year because I was not paying attention to what my body needed.   My

best friend died and I became stressed again and got into my head and paid no

attention to the universe around me and re-injured myself.   I have been very

hard on myself

about all this but everytime I open myself to the reminders and gentle

observations of this group I feel more spiritually advanced and at peace.

I survived major surgery and did well because of this group and the

wisdom contained in so many of the respondents words and thoughts.

Whenever I open my mail from the KY group my compassion for myself

returns and I push myself right back into doing what yoga I can.   We all need

attention and it helps to give it to ourselves.   We really are love.   I feel at

ease everytime I read what the persons on this list have to say.   Keep

reading it.   It is a huge boost and reminder to love others but give a lot of that

love to ourselves and open ourselves to new experiences of what the mind can

do.

Have you not given yourself forgiveness for your so-called "sins" of the

past?

It helps to give a body this and all the love you can feel in your

heart..   I can't say that the pain will go away but the yoga certainly helps to

accept what is and lighten the load.

I send you my love and compassion.   The spiritual CD's and musical

chants from Yoga Tech help so much ..........

Ellen, please start doing the Aquarian Meditation AND making sure your diet

is alkaline (check archives for ph, acid, cleanse, Kitcheree). Drinking

quart of carrot, celery and beet juice sipping throughout the day will

produce results that you can feel in short order. Keep up until you are out

of the woods.

Also, turmeric is great for inflammation. You can be creative for how to get

it in you or you can drink Golden Milk.

Te "Aquarian Meditation":

Physical toughness is not required, just the mental resolve and a

willingness to process. The set of Kriyas will re-align you with your core.

Have you ever looked at the word "Confidence"? "Con" means "with". "Fidence"

sounds & looks like "fidelity".

It's fidelity to Spirit and Soul that keeps us together. That is who we are,

and if one chooses to identify with this and not the continuous blurr of

things outside us, all will heal.

If you can do this in the Amrit Vela the results will be multiplied

tremendously. Also, don't forget to chant.........something, afterwards. God

respects when we work, but she/he Loves when we Sing. Chanting is how we

circulate the fruits of our physical discipline and make it part of who we

are. What books do you have?  Something with Ra Ma Da SA?

How to do it:

First, make sure to Tune In properly with the Adi Mantra. (I personally like

to do Japji before tuning in. It deepens the entire experience)
