Hummingbird

He whispered to me,

"It will be an unbearable sorrow."

and I held it in my throat

held it in silence

a thousand million tears fell

and I wept for my children

for the children of the ages

and I held this intolerable pain

in my throat

I held it there

and I was caught

a thousand million tears fell

in my throat

....and then he came to me

my ruby-throated humminbird

he came to me

held a thousand million tears

and flew away

with my bleeding sorrow.
