Another paper in the mailbox. About leucose. Some kind of virus-infection

that appears to be pretty common on Sweden. The cows does not seem to

suffer too much from it.

The problem is that due to trade-reasons (among others), Sweden want to

declare itself free from this disease. Since the sickness is contageous and

incurable, the solution is to forcibly slaughter the sick cows.

Now they are making a big program to test all the cows in Sweden, and get

rid of the sick ones.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to approach this issue.

Statistically speaking every tenth cow in the country have this infection,

one out of three farms have sick cows.

There appears to be two ways to approach this problem.

1) To test the cows, and if they are healty, the problem is gone. If some

cow has the infection, we will get automatically get case 2.

2) Refuse to let the cows be tested. That will probably create a big scene.

It might also force all devotees in Sweden to get involved in lobbying,

demonstration whatever, against this stupid law. It might also end up with

the police coming here to oversee the testing, and forcibly removing of

cows for slaughter.

There might be some alternatives also. The goverment is counting on that it

will not be able to locate all the cows in the country, so some percentage

of unlocatable ones are accounted for. The problem here is that we already

have reported our cows, so they know that we have them. It is also a little

bit problematic to hide a herd of some 30 cows in the middle of the winter,

and in the long run.
