Guest guest
Message by Nikhilananda Dasa (ACBSP ): 1. I doubt that many people would be interested in or even be able to understand the Caitanya caritamrta, without the purports of Srila Prabhupada. These books have to be received through the via media of pure devotees. Your suggestion to print and distribute the CC -without- the purport of Srila Prabhupada seems to be -not- a good one. Your enthusiastic request that we will only be able to spread KC world wide if we immediately translate so many other works by the six goswamis etc and distribute them sounds nice but is not realistic. Nor does it correspond to the priorities and instructions left by Srila Prabhupada. Some of these books were published by scholars and Gaudiya missions before and they had hardly any impact on people anywhere in the West. On the other hand, by the large scale distribution of the SB and the CC -with- purports of Srila Prabhupada, lakhs of people are becoming devotees. So the request by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati M. and Thakur Bhaktivinode to spread the pastimes of Lord Caitanya are being fulfilled by Srila Prabhupada. 2. Although it is important to get all the literature about Lord Caitanya and the works of our previous acaryas translated by and by into the Western languages, the Caitanya lilas have already been presented in a most authoritative form in Srila Prabhupada´s edition of the Caitanya Caritamrta. Many do not even take the time to study the Bhagavad gita, CC and Srimad Bhagavatam carefully, what to speak of so many other books you have mentioned. Many beginning devotees nowadays jump prematurely into all these different pastimes which are published without purports and before having sufficiently studied Srila Prabhupada´s purports. Needless to mention that such lack of understanding is bound to produce confusion. 3. Srila Prabhupada has asked us in many letters ( as in one letter which i received in Nov. 1972 ) to first dedicate our lives for translating and publishing all of -his- books in all languages of the world. Since we have not yet published all of Srila Prabhupada´s works in all languages of the world, our priority as followers of Srila Prabhupada must clearly be to dedicate our energies toward the goal given to us by Srila Prabhupada - to first publish all of his books in all languages of the world and to distribute the Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrta - with - the Bhaktivedanta purports - in all languages. Then all the rest of it will follow. If we cannot translate Srila Prabhupada´s books ourselves we can support the translation work by preaching and making devotees in countries where we do not yet have sufficient translators and by supporting the publication of Srila Prabhupada´s books. Undoubtedly Srila Prabhupada knows better than us what is the best way to please our previous acaryas. By jumping over Srila Prabhupada we will not achieve anything. The Srimad Bhagavatam of Srila Prabhupada has a summary of Lord Caitanya´s pastimes in the preface and the CC contains all the essence of Caitanya life and pastimes. Then there is also the book "Teachings of Lord Caitanya" which for example in Germany was published before even the Bhagavad gita. What more do we want ? 4. By reading even fragments of the purports of HDG Srila Prabhupada, more people than ever before in history have become aspiring followers of Lord Caitanya. There have been many subtle and otherwise attempts in recent years by misled deviants, to diminish Srila Prabhupada´s instructions and the orders he gave us. Worse, in the last two years many even have even tried to spread the theory that these purports are not so attractive or even defective ( mostly those who hardly ever read or appreciated them in the first place). While practically all difficulties we have experienced in iskcon are due to the fact that some have not deeply enough studied the instructions of HDG Srila Prabhupada with faith but pretend (-ed) to be his great enthusiastic followers.
