Guest guest
> Can you tell me from Vedic point what is the best time of day to conceive > a child.. In February 1998 Kaviraj Partap Chauhan wrote following about conception: There is a whole section of Ayurveda which deals with instructions on how produce a good child. I will give some important points here. The most important point is that both the partners should be absolutely healthy. The mother should have normal menstrual periods. There should not be any kind of discharge including white, yellow or any other kind. The bowel movements should be clean and there should be no constipation. Cleansing the body is another important concept which is applicable to both the partners. In Ayurveda there are a number of cleansing therapies which are termed as "Panch Karma" treatments. Although it may not be possible for everyone to undergo Panch Karma, it will be beneficial that both the partners undergo some kind of steaming (sauna). Oil massage twice a week is very helpful to tonify and cleanse the body. Taking enema with warm water two or three times a week is also very good to cleans the bowels. The second important factor is good health of both the parents. Ghee, milk, fresh butter, honey, green vegetables, fruits, sprouts, and certain herbs like licorice, aloe vera, and saffron are very good. Taking a teaspoonful of chyavanprash or certain other Ayurvedic tonic like Ashwagandha or shatavari is also very beneficial. Make sure that the system remains clean and whatever is taken is fully digested. Healthy sperm, ovum, healthy uterus and proper time are the four basic factors to produce a healthy child. Both parents should follow the above diet for at least three months before conception. As Ayurveda relates to mind, body, and soul, it is very important that both partners possess good mental and spiritual health. Specially during the coitus the partners should be free from all kinds of stress, anxiety, depression etc. It is very important to have God consciousness as it affects the constitution of the child. Child will resemble the characters about whom the mother thinks during coitus or during pregnancy. So it's very important to have Krsna consciousness all during this process. The best way to is to engage in chanting and reading from the Holy books, of course BG and Srimad Bhagvatam. One special diet mentioned in Carak Samhita for the mother specially during the days when conception is desired is to prepare a drink by boiling barley in cow's milk. Ghee and honey should be added in this drink and the mother should drink it warm in a silver or bronze cup. This can be taken once or twice a day for seven days. Celibacy should be observed during this period and there should be a program full of spritual activities, so that the mind is engaged in good thoughts. Yogurt, cheese (panir), milk, honey and ghee should be used in diet during this time. After the menstrual flow has stopped (this may differ in different cases). For example if the menstrual discharge goes on for three days....on the fourth day both partners should have an oil massage, take bath, and wear clean clothes. On this day there should be no overeating, fasting, fear, anxiety, stress, and depression. This is applicable on both partners. The partners should not be too much passionate on this day. A proper, comfortable bed should be arranged for the coitus. Both the partners should have excitement, they should take relishing food or the food which they like (not too much quantity). The room should be quite, peaceful and pleasing with some kind of aroma (incense). It is mentioned in Carak Samhita that the man should ascend the bed first with right leg and then the woman with left leg. They also mention to chant some specific mantras during that moment. One mantra means: May Brahma, Brihaspati, Visnu, Soma, Surya, Asvinis, Bhaga, Mitra, and Varuna provide us with a brave child. It is good chant the Mahamantra before entering into the act. A proper posture during the coitus is also explained which is the normal posture, with the woman on the back. A Vedic fire sacrifice known as the 'garbhadaan samskara" may also be done. But there should be some person who knows how to do is properly. Besides there are a number of other instructions to be followed by the mother during the pregancy. We can discuss about that part once conception takes place. Till then.. Hari Hari!! Kaviraj Partap Chauhan.
