1.2. LETTER FROM THE COMPILER

31 May 2003

 

Dear Prabhus and Matajis,

 

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All

glories to our spiritual masters and Vaishnavas following Srila Prabhupada.

 

As described in Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita (Madhya-lila, Chapter 3), after

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu took sannyasa from Sri Kesava Bharati in Katwa,

Bengal, He wanted to go to Vrindavana. However, Lord Nityananda tricked Him

and brought Him to Santipura in Bengal where Sri Advaita Acharya was

residing. Advaita Acharya then spoke to Lord Chaitanya as follows:

 

"You have been fasting continuously for three days in Your ecstasy of love

for Krishna. I therefore invite You to My home, where You may kindly take

Your alms. Come with Me to My residence. At My home I have just cooked one

palmful of rice. The vegetables are always very simple. There is no

luxurious cooking -- simply a little liquid vegetable and spinach."

 

Saying this, Sri Advaita Acharya brought the Lord to His residence. There

Advaita Acharya washed the feet of the Lord and was consequently very happy

within. All the eatables were first cooked by the wife of Advaita Acharya.

Then Srila Advaita Acharya personally offered everything to Lord Vishnu.

 

Srila Prabhupada comments in this regard:

 

"This is the ideal householder's life. The husband and wife live together,

and the husband works very hard to secure paraphernalia for worshiping Lord

Vishnu. The wife at home cooks a variety of foodstuffs for Lord Vishnu, and

the husband offers it to the Deity. After that, arati is performed, and the

prasada is distributed amongst family members and guests. According to the

Vedic principles, there must always be a guest in the householder's house.

In my childhood I have actually seen my father receive not less than four

guests every day, and in those days my father's income was not very great.

Nonetheless, there was no difficulty in offering prasada to at least four

guests every day. According to Vedic principles, a householder, before

taking lunch, should go outside and shout very loudly to see if there is

anyone without food. In this way he invites people to take prasada. If

someone comes, the householder offers him prasada, and if there is not much

left, he should offer his own portion to the guest. If no one responds to

his call, the householder can accept his own lunch. Thus the householder's

life is also a kind of austerity. Because of this, the householder's life is

called the grihastha-asrama. Although a person may live with his wife and

children happily in Krishna consciousness, he also observes the regulative

principles followed in any temple. If there is no Krishna consciousness, the

householder's abode is called a grihamedhi's house. Householders in Krishna

consciousness are actually grihasthas -- that is, those living in the asrama

with their families and children. Sri Advaita Prabhu was an ideal grihastha,

and His house was the ideal grihastha-asrama."

 

Let us pray to Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates -- Sri

Pancha-tattva -- to kindly bestow on us their blessings that we may become

Krishna conscious as exemplified by Sri Advaita Acharya.

Some devotees have requested me to post the birth information of the

devotees along with their advertisements. I am doing the same from this

issue onwards. Some of the devotees have not yet given me their birth

information; so they are not posted in this issue.

2.1. ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE NEWSLETTER

By the grace of Srila Prabhupada and the efforts of his sincere followers,

the number of practicing devotees in ISKCON is increasing all over the

world.

 

Most of such devotees do desire to get married. However, at often times,

devotees end up marrying nondevotees, forgetting the following instruction

of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead:

 

asat-sanga-tyaga - ei vaishnava-achara

 

"A Vaishnava should always avoid the association of the nondevotees."

 

And because of the influence of nondevotee association, such marriages

generally do not help the devotees increase their Krishna consciousness.

 

Therefore HH Jayapataka Maharaja and several other leaders of ISKCON have

expressed their desire that devotees be practically helped via matrimonial

arrangements to find an appropriate Krishna conscious spouse.

 

In an attempt to help fulfill their desire, I have started a fortnightly

matrimonial e-mail newsletter which will publish matrimonial information of

ISKCON devotees in a way similar to how newspapers publish such matrimonial

information.

 

Subscription is by e-mail only and is free for devotees and members of

ISKCON.

 

It is desired that information regarding this newsletter be widely broadcast

amongst ISKCON devotees and members.

process of Krishna consciousness as taught by Srila Prabhupada in the

daily, or chanting at least one round daily but endeavoring to increase the

chanting to a minimum of sixteen rounds daily.

(2) Observing the four regulative principles as prescribed by Srila

Prabhupada.

(3) Regularly reading Srila Prabhupada's books and accepting his teachings

as binding upon his/her life.

(4) Regularly associating with ISKCON devotees in good standing,

participating in hearing Krishna-katha, congregational chanting and worship

of Lord Krishna as given by Srila Prabhupada.

(5) Regularly partaking of foodstuffs offered to Lord Krishna.

(6) Connected to or residing in an ISKCON temple/ ISKCON farm community/

ISKCON authorized nama-hatta center.

 

Ideally, a responsible, trustworthy superior person should take charge of

finding a suitable spouse for a younger person, and I encourage that such
