Beginning b'caris wear three. In ISKCON pancaratrika initiated b'cari's also wear 6 threads and sannyasi's wear 9. So, I asked Bhanu Swami if he knew anything and he replied to me: "significance is not given in the scriptures for the differing numbers, other than that the second set is sometimes said to represent the wife (for the grahstha)."
