Dear IS_Con devotees, who partook in discussing Ritvik on this "Initiations

in IsKCon forum"

Before withdrawing I have one last comment to make: for someone officially

diagnosed with having Borderline, I held and maintained my views here quite

strongly. Thank you for the chivalry. It has just proven to myself, that

taking shelter of Srila Prabhupada's lotus feet directly, nothing is

impossible! Hare Krishna and Goodbye!!!!

My Dear Krishnapriya devi dasi,

Please accept my obeisances.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We wish you well on your pathway back to Godhead

and thank you for your participation in our conference.

One thing is for sure, when we get back to Godhead we

can all sit at Srila Prabhupada's lotus feet and get his

confirmation on whether or not he wanted the disciplic

succession to continue after him or to stop with him. It

appears from the following statement that he wanted it to

continue after him. But since you are so confused about

this on your behalf I will ask him.

Here's the quote:

"I have got my disciples, so in the future these many

disciples may have many branches of disciplic succession."

Letter to: Kirtanananda -- Los Angeles 25 January, 1969

Hoping this meets you in good health and in a cheerful mood,

Your eternal servant,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Sankarshan prabhu quoted:

"I have got my disciples, so in the future these

many disciples may have many branches of disciplic

succession."

Letter to: Kirtanananda -- Los Angeles 25 January,

1969

The following is a more complete version of what Srila

Prabhupada said and will help in understanding HDG's

true intentions.

"Regarding your question about the disciplic

succession coming down from Arjuna, it is just like I

have got my disciples, so in the future these many

disciples may have many branches of disciplic

succession. So in one line of disciples we may not see

another name coming from a different line. But this

does not mean that person whose name does not appear

was not in the disciplic succession."

(SPL to Kirtanananda, 25 January, 1969).

The above is obviously just an analogy to illustrate a

point. Srila Prabhupada is merely giving an example to

clear up a philosophical question raised by one of his

disciples, (whom he later appoints to act as a ritvik

only, not a diksa guru). He is not saying that this

**will happen** or **should happen**. In fact he uses

the word **'may'**. Furthermore:

1. The GBC have never suggested ISKCON gurus should

all represent their own 'branch' of the disciplic

succession. Rather they are all meant to represent

just one branch, ISKCON. Thus even the GBC would never

in their right mind advocate this quote as an

institutional blueprint for the future of initiation.

2. The quote is taken from a personal letter, which

was not published, until 1986, and only then because

someone in the BBT was bribed into releasing such

material. Thus Sankarshan prabhu is asking us to

believe that Srila Prabhupada expected every Temple

President in ISKCON to:

a. Know in detail the contents of all his private

correspondence, even though it had never been

published.

b. Know which specific letter was meant to be used to

justify the termination of the ritvik system, even

though they had no access to it, nor did the letter

even remotely allude to the ritvik system or the

conditions under which it should be terminated.

3. Even the GBC themselves have never said that they

stopped the ritvik system because of this private

letter to Kirtanananda, which nobody saw till years

after the ritvik system was stopped. Thus we are still

left with the question 'why was the ritvik system

stopped?'

Sankarshan prabhu makes the following point also....

"when we get back to Godhead we can all sit at Srila

Prabhupada's lotus feet and get his confirmation on

whether or not he wanted the disciplic succession to

continue after him or to stop with him."

Whoever said anything about stopping the chain of

disciplic succession? The parampara system is eternal

and is personally maintained by the Supreme Lord

Himself. According to Srila Prabhupada the sankirtan

movement, and hence ISKCON will only last another

9,500 years. Against eternity 9,500 years is nothing,

a mere blip in cosmic time. This is the period during

which Srila Prabhupada shall remain the current

acarya, at least within ISKCON. Previous acaryas have

remained current for thousands or even millions of

years so it really is nothing to be alarmed about:

'....we find in the Bhagavad-Gita that the Gita was

taught to the sungod, some millions of years ago, but

Krishna has mentioned only three names in this

parampara system-namely, Vivisvan, Manu, and Iksvaku;

and so ***these gaps*** do not hamper from

understanding the parampara system. We have to pick up

from the prominent acaryas, and follow from him....We

have to pick up from the authority of the acharya in

whatever sampradaya we belong to.' [sPL Dayananda

684-12]

"A bona fide spiritual master is in the disciplic

succession from ***time eternal*** and he does not

deviate at all from the instructions of the Supreme

Lord." (BG 4:42)

Cyavana: Sometimes it's difficult as devotees for us to know whether

we're doing the right thing or whether we're just speculating.

Prabhupada: And therefore you have to consult your guru.
