Hare Krishna dear Prabhus,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupad.

It is enlivening to see the worldwide Tsunami wave of charity to help

Tsunami victims.

We can humbly endeavor to rehabilitate ailing victims but only time

would heal their emotional wounds. In addition to our monetary help they

surely need our daily prayers. The prayers will help the victims

(deceased & survivors) and also help us increase our faith in God,

Almighty.

ISKCON-Japan has organized Narasingh Yagya (fire sacrifice) for the

Tsunami victims on 16-Jan-2005 (Sunday) from 4:00 p.m. onwards at Hare

Krishna Temple. Let us get together to Pray to The Supreme Personality

of Godhead for His mercy on all. H.H. Kavichandra Swami Maharaj will

preside over the ceremony. Prasad will be served to all assembled

devotees. Venue: Subaru 1F, 4-19-6 Kamitakada, Nakano-ku, Tokyo. Nearest

stations: Ochiai (Tozai line), Higashi-Nakano (JR-Sobu line, Oedo line),

Nakai (Seibu-Shinjuku line).

ISKCON devotees from Hare Krishna Temple (Chennai), Bhaktivedanta

Hospital (Mumbai), Dasanudas team and other affiliates are actively

working to provide hot Prasadam food, shelter, clothing, medical-aid,

utensils and the Holynames to the needy.

ISKCON-Chennai:

Dear devotees,

Hare Krishna. PAMHO. AGTSP. AGTSGG.

I would like to thank all the devotees who have responded to our call

for help with rehabilitating the tsunami victims. This Food For Life is

keeping us enthusiastic. We are also doing kirtan and giving people

pictures of Krishna and Srila Prabhupada. We are happy to see children

and others join in the kirtan and we are happy that without any

religious barriers, people are taking prasadam. We are grateful to the

devotees who are sending us donations and keeping us engaged in this

transcendental service.

We have been doing Food For Life since Sunday when the tsunamis hit. Our

program has been having a very good response. People prefer our hot

prasadam to the packets that are brought to them from hotels. However,

they are also expressing their need for more things such as note books

for the children, vessels for cooking, plastic containers for storing

provisions, buckets, mugs, pots for storing water, blankets and mats.

We have worked out the basic requirements like this:

1) Pot for cooking rice (aluminium) - Rs. 30/-

2) Cooking pan (aluminium) - Rs. 30/-

3) Plastic pot for storing water - Rs. 30/-

4) Two glasses (stainless steel with

'Hare Krishna' inscribed) - Rs. 25/-

5) Mat (small size for sleeping) - Rs. 20/-

6) Blanket - Rs.130/-

7) 2 Plastic Containers -to store 1 kg. - Rs. 35/-

Total one person - Rs.300/-

If we were to provide mats and blankets for an entire family (say

minimum three members) then the cost has to be worked out per family.

Note books cost Rs.7/- each. We would have to see how many children are

going to school before making this gift. All these gifts will be given

only after one week as right now the affected people feel that the 'big

bullies' are grabbing all the goodies.

Many shops here are willing to give a good discount as we have said we

will be buying in large numbers and they also understand that this is a

service for the tsunami victims. The prices mentioned above are after

discount.

We would like to start with rehabilitating the areas closest to the

temple, and then move on from there. We have asked the Village Officer

for the statistics.

So far we have been doing only kichdi/lemon rice/pongal food for life.

Since many people are again and again asking for special items, we will

add a pakora or pappad to the prasadam.

Please check our website www.iskconchennai.com for all details regarding

our relief work and photographs. There is a Relief Diary with

description of our daily Food For Life.

Each day we are going to different affected localities and studying the

situation. Affected people themselves direct us to worse localities

requesting us to help there, saying "the police will not let others go

there. But they will let you. So, please go". In this way, we are moving

on to more and more badly affected interior areas.

Thanking you very much,

Your servant,

Sumithra Krishna das

Temple President.

DASANUDAS:

Dear Friends / FOLKs,

Please accept our pranams.

The biggest earthquake in 40 years has killed thousands and left

thousands more families homeless and vulnerable.

We are all very saddened by the terrible devastation the tsunami waves

(Killer waves)have caused to our dear brothers and sisters here in the

costal areas of Chennai and Pondicherry.

At this hour, our volunteers are on the ground delivering free food, aid

and assistance. We need your support at this very critical hour. Relief

activities are going on from Monday 27th onwards. We started with

distribution of hot kichari (a wholesome food made of rice / mung dahl

and vegetables), variety rice and pongal (southindian delicacy). Though

there are many other organisations and the governement distributing food

packets - people preferred our hot kichari / pongal as the packed food

had distasteful smell.

On the 28th and 29th we started moving to remote hamlets since the main

costal areas had many organisations catering to relief. We are

co-ordinating relief in Pudupattinam, Vadapattinam areas which are very

remote and hadn`t received any relief till we visited.

Most of the hutments have been washed with their belongings and

thousands are stranded on the streets. People have taken shelter in

nearby schools and temples.

With another warning coming from the state government today people

wanted transport facilities and our volunteers are shifting the people

to safer places as far as Maduranthagam (around 50 - 60kms). Another

team is meanwhile arranging for blankets and sleeping mats.

In such a situation with millions of displaced people suffering in need

of food and clothing it seems an impossible task, but we should not let

this discourage us. Let every one of us help in whatever little way we

can.

We humbly request all those with sufficient means to donate towards the

tsunami relief work in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

To donate by credit card you may choose the donation amount in the box

on the right.

Join us and support the cause !

Your servants,

The Dasanudas Team.

Donate online at: www.dasanudas.org.

We would like to thank all of our friends and donors who have

contributed towards our projects in the past and request everyone to

offer whatever service they can, regardless of how small, to help this

urgent cause.

Yours in service of humanity,

Dasanudas Team.

BHAKTIVEDANTA HOSPITAL:

=======================

The waves recede, leaving behind over 80,000 dead and the devastated.

The newspapers and television channels have taken over, assaulting us

with over 24,000 words and images of information and strident

compassion. After sifting through the debris, the flaying arms and the

silences, what do we presume? Situated perhaps miles away from the scene

of disaster, we want to reach out to the tsunami victims.

Yes, Bhaktivedanta Hospital, Mira Road, Mumbai which is loving

dedication to Srila A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada-Founder of

the International Society for Krishna Consciousness has sent a team for

relief workers to Nagapattinam where itself 2,500 lives were lost due to

killer waves on 26th December 2004. Nagapattinam is a small fishing town

situated at 500 KM north of Chennai. Thousands lie injured on the street

due to scarcity in medical help. There is acute shortage of drinking

water since the ocean water has entered into the fresh water wells and

lakes. People are going hungry due to the absence of infrastructure of

cooking. Indeed, the living are envying the Dead!

The first relief team consisting of 22 people left Mumbai for

Nagapattinam on 29th afternoon. Already the advanced team of relief

workers have reached to make the necessary arrangement. The relief team

consists of specialist Doctors, Para medical staff, cooks etc under the

leadership of Dr. Ajay Sankhe (Madhavananda Das) who is the Director of

Bhaktivedanta Hospital and Consulting Pediatrician. The team also

includes General Physicians, General Surgeons and Orthopedic Surgeons

and other experts. Bhaktivedanta Hospital team has already got the

necessary permission to undertake relief work from the Health

Authorities.

Apart from providing medical aid, Bhaktivedanta Hospital will also be

setting up kitchen to provide Free food to the affected.

Our team has already been reviewing the villages around

Nagapattanam,Tiruvarur and Sirgaji. There has been red alert and

everyone is moving towards a safe shelter constantly including our team.

There is a plan to contruct 50 houses to rehabilitate more than 100

families who have lost all their belongings.

Calamities like these leave people shattered both who are directly

effected and of those whose family members are either dead or injured.

Nothing except time can only heal their wounds.

We can though temporary lend our shoulders and take care of their

immediate needs maybe to hasten the healing process.

Therefore, please share their grief by donating a small amount which may

go well in this poverty and calamity stricken town.
