Srila Prabhupada NectarAsses

At the Bombay pandal, Madhudvisa was in charge of the

stage program and Tamal Krishna in Charge of the

general management. So Tamal Krishna made me the

temple commander for the pandal and practically put

all the responsibility and work on me. Thus I would

be at the pandal all afternoon while the other

devotees were enjoying at the Akash-Ganga with Srila

Prabhupada and with each other. Nobody stayed at the

pandal to help me. I would be left alone to do all the

work, and I just didn't know what to do. Every day

Srila Prabhupada would arrive at the pandal in the

late afternoon or early evening and sit behind the

stage in one of the rooms made of cloth and bamboo

poles. One afternoon when he came, the room was really

in a mess---the rented sofas were out of place, used,

dirty cups were left here and there, the tables had

not been dusted or washed-it was a mess. As I was

practically the only devotee there, Srila Prabhupada

asked me, "What is this? Why is everything so dirty?"

I replied, "I don't have anyone to help me. I have to

do everything myself." Srila Prabhupada looked at me

and said gently, " It is better to control five asses

than to work like an ass yourself."
