I don't remember if you ever specifically had the pleasure, but I know many

Bhaktas took a dislike to me when I would make them dig up fences posts that

had been dug in by hand if they weren't tight. Places where we couldn't get

the post pounder into or there were so few it wasn't worth getting the

machine mounted on a tractor and driving it to the spot.

I would give them very explicit intructions about tamping in the first dirt

intot he bottom of the hole very tightly. If it was at all loose, no matter

how much you tamp it at the top of the hole, that just makes apivot point

and if I lean on the post it would wobble. Which meant that within a few

years it would come loose all togehter. Now a few years to the passing thru

pickup labor may have seemed long enough, once you have been back thru the

same fence and replace it all over a twenty year cycle, a few years comes

rolling by much too soon. :-)

I always counted an inch of rock the same as 2 inches of soil. Chipping thru

that albeit soft stone, did provide a wonderful outlet for my aggressive

tendencies.
