Srila Prabhupada NectarYou can never be cured

I had been serving in India for two and a half years

and had contracted jaundice. With great patience and

care, I was able to overcome my condition, but within

two weeks, I had a relapse. Then, no matter what I

did, I could not recover. Finally Srila Prabhupada

said that as long as I remained in Bombay I would not

get better.

With great difficulty I got the necessary stamps in my

passport to leave the country and undertook the

arduous flight from Bombay to Chicago. In Chicago, my

parents received me at the airport and took me to

their home, where I had lived from the age of eight.

One day an old family friend who was a psychologist

came to meet me. She came in my room and began to

inquire: "Tell me, Glenn, did you feel that your

parents didn't love you?" Which parents?" I asked. "I

have passed so many lifetimes, and in every lifetime I

have had different parents." In this way, whatever

questions she asked, I answered with Krsna

Consciousness. After some time she left my room, and I

could overhear her speaking with my parents. "I am

sorry, I did whatever I could. But I don't think I can

help him." Then I realized my parents had sent her to

"cure me."

After three days I began to feel uncomfortable at home

and went to the temple in Chicago. And a few days

later I flew to Los Angeles to recuperate at the

temple there. Soon Srila Prabhupada also arrived from

India. He inquired about my health and my stay in

Chicago and I told him how the Psychologist had come

to cure me. Srila Prabhupada remarked, "You have been

infected permanently. You can never be cured."

Some Days later Srila Prabhupada responded to appeals

for me to return to India. He encouraged me, in his

words, to go "back home, back to Bombay." I got the

distinct impression he was telling me that if I go

back and serve him in Bombay, I would go back to

godhead. After some time I was well enough to return

back home, back to Bombay.
