Guest guest
Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Not having been in this conference very long, I have probably missed out on debates on this topic. It seems that many long-time devotees have been in (and out?) of macrobiotics. Perhaps someone would be willing to bring me up to date on the following: 1) Are macrobiotic foodstuffs like algae, ferments and pickles only medicine, or can one offer them? Pickles are even mentioned several times by Srila Prabhupada in his letters (see Siksamrita under "Food"). Did he eat them himself regularly, or only as medicine? Did he allow them to be offered? What is the difference to yoghurt or iddlis, which are also allowed to ferment overnight? 2) Why is there a "bias" among devotees against soya products? Is it because they are generally pre-cooked, fermented and/or produced by non-devotees? Is it possible to use raw soya beans? Does anyone have advice on this? 3) What about milk, fruit and other typically vedic products, which are rejected by microbiotic theory and practice for northern climates? 4) What success has been reported on using macrobiotics to alleviate devotee illnesses and ill-feeling? Where can I look further? Who can I ask? Thank you! Hare Krsna! Your servant, Locan das
