I was a little bit shocked, looking myself every day > at the calendar I have printed out for our town. What is the instruction, > Srila Prabhupada gave us and how should we follow? > Hare Krsna! > Y.s. Nityananda-priya d.d. I am not an expert on what Srila Prabhupada specifically said on this issue, but I remember that the principle of breaking fast the morning after ekadasi was well established in the early 70's. As far as calculating the time within which one should break the fast, the rules are quite clear. There are some technicalities, but for most ekadasis the fast should be broken after sunrise and within 1/3 of the daylight hours. What is the difficulty with this? This information can be determined simply by looking in the local newspaper and making a simple calculation. Our acaryas have instructed us to observe ekadasi, and the observation is not complete without breaking the fast in time. So unless there is some extremely urgent Krishnaseva that prevents us, it is an offense to neglect following this rule to the best of our ability.
