Guest guest
I appreciated considerably the points raised by Gopal dasa in this discussion. A modern example would be of Cuba which was forced into a position of oil shortage and consequently reverted to using oxen. Now even though cuba became ox dependant I am pretty sure they were not advocating vegetarianism as a consequence. No the oxen worked and then most likely ended up slaughtered. Hare Krishna dasi can you comment on this. In effect we as ISKCON a society that protects cows cannot wait for an oil shortage to give us drive for working oxen. No we should establish ox dependant Cow protection farming and livelihoods now with or without an oil shortage. Oil shortage will not protect oxen but will merely work them before slaughter. Remember we are not an International society of working oxen but one of Cow Protection which works its oxen. Until we establish and demonstrate livelihoods that are based on protected ox dependancy we still do not have a living alternative. Srila Prabhupada wants us to have a system of Cow protection that is not utopian but is practical. Cow Protection and its farming with oxen require the dynamics of vaisya drive to enable ox herdsmen to make a living from working oxen. Where are the buiseness plans that demonstrate how a working man can maintain his family from working a team or teams of working oxen. These plans would be important contributions to the change of utopian cow protection ideals to practical cow protection. ys syam
