Big bullock teams in South Africa

Does your picture look like this? -- I just found this photo of a

historical picture of a South African ox team. Like Australia, they

seemed to use very large teams.

 

Interestingly, it appears that they were using voice commands, as I see

a whip but no nose rings. Pretty big teams. In the "Bullock Driver's

Handbook," Arthur Cannon (Australian) give the procedure for yoking up a

big team like this.

Wow, I just noticed that you said your grandfather *drew* the picture

of the 16 oxen pulling the wagon.

That would be great to see!

The wagon, not the oxen. At rest in camp, his wife with baby. Great

pictures you sent tho.
