Here in New Varsana (Auckland, New Zealand) we discussed this topic among devotees during Srimad-Bhagavatam lecture. Seems like this rumors is typical for "karmi" in India. They don't care to keep TV in their houses which is creates contamination in the house but they don't want to have Mahabharata. Bhagavat-Gita is also Mahabharata. It means that such pseudo religious people don't want to keep Holy Book of all Hindus. We know that just keeping BG in home brings good lack and very propitious.
