Insomnia is often a symptom of an underlying condition.

Valerian should be avoided by anyone with a compromised liver.

To get proper ayurvedic herbs, you should probably see a practioner, as some

herbs have different effects on different constitutions.

Stress relieving techniques prior to trying to sleep, and not eating for a

longer period before sleeping than you currently practice may help.

Try smudging with cedar.

You are right as usual.

ASWAGANDHA Root

Withania somnifera - cert.org., dried 1:5

Excellent for rejuvenation of nerve, reproductive and musclo-skeletal

tissues. Exceptionally efficient in treatment of infertility and male

impotence.Take 1 - 2 droppers, up to 3 times a day.

I certainly prefer the descriptor "excellent" as opposed to "monstrous" :-)

(er, ah, and WHERE do I get this? :-)

All kidding aside, this is an example of why simplistic blanket statements

can both be true and untrue. This sounds a bit like gingseng. Gingseng is an

excellent rejuvenator for someone with a debilitated system, especially old

people. It isn't meant for young people. If a young person is taking it,

it's a symptom of some underlying condition that needs attention - in modern

society, commonly that would be poor diet, meat eating, debauchery whatever.

If you need gingseng as a young person, what will you have for old age?

IMHO, gingseng should be saved for old age.

So similarly it may be that ashwagnada is excellent for someone with a

system weakened by old age or disease, but be aprodesiac for someone with

normal energy levels.

In any case, seems like a safe course for taking it might be better in the

morning then right before bed, if celibacy is a concern.

It may be that taken singly it acts one way, while in complex with other

herbs or regimens, act in another.

It may be a difference between taking a concentrated extract it over amps

the system, while taken as a whole herb, some other bioactive ingredient

acts as a governor on the throttle of sexual impulse.
