That's a generalization that doesn't really take someone's personal preferences into consideration, nor another's personal prejudices. I'm quite sure Texas, being full of that wonderful quality of Southern charm and old fashioned ideals, is home to a great number of gentlemen who would have no trouble treating women with respect; indeed, with the respect they treat their own mothers. So while I don't want to disillusion you, I do want to tell you that many women in our movement haven't had that experience, and that the use of the word "mataji" has been delivered with a twist. I don't happen to think being called "prabhu" is a nice thing; nor do I think it's a solution. But I do think that those who object so strenuously to seeing women as prabhu have a problem, and inflicting that problem on women in ISKCON has created some unresolved bitterness. And I've seen that a lot of this has all been blamed on the women, that their objection to mistreatment has been labelled as "feminist propaganda."
