Guest guest
What are you trying to say Mother? That you do in fact advocate that if a woman were to insist upon being called Mister - that you would agree? Why are you not willing to concede that SP's very very simple statements - all of them - are best taken as they are and that this simplicity serves each of us best? What is wrong with respectfully calling a woman Mother as our Srila Prabhupada advised us? Why would you want to suggest or as you seem to be doing, argue otherwise? But what is inherently incorrect in my comments on this ridiculously simple issue. It is a general question and a specific question. In general men are instructed by our Srila Prabhupada that to graciously and respectfully call women mother. There will be cases where women from the West adamantly refuse to embrace this particular aspect of what constitutes Vedic culture. Now the question seems to be: What is the general instruction by our Acharya and it appears clear what that is. The general instruction is simple: Mataji. However there are some cases where the general "prabhu" is also used. Some women - injured in some manner in their past dealings with men- will simply not embrace the first. So exceptions will be accepted as well. That is a given. Are we concerned here with the general rule? What is "common knowledge" amongst the men and women of that period when His Divine Grace was here and offered us this aspect of Vaisnava culture? It appears we are. My comments are offered in that light. As far as your attempt to align my comments with some accepted conclusion on polygamy - what in the name of Jesus are you really saying? What would my simple comment on the one matter have to do with some matter of polygamy? I really do not remember the issue of marriage - single wives or otherwise being brought into this discussion. Your attempt to "position" my comments alongside some matter that has nothing to do with this issue and is considered less than desireable would be like saying "Well I guess its about as clear as Praghosa's opinion on the Boston Red Sox and their ability to retain the title this year! And we ALL know how what he thinks about the Sox!!" It is that relevant. Let's try to keep the discussion sober and connected.
