Purchasing camera for LOK Media - which one?

Lokanath Maharaja has asked me to help with shopping for a video camera to

be used to record his Bhagavat Katha, traveling yatras, and other festivals.

 

There is a sponsor. The budjet is between $3000 and $4000.

 

I heard that The local pros here in Mumbai and Pune use a Sony DSR - 250.

 

I also heard that the Canon XM1 or GM1 or XL1 was also good.

 

As well as Sony DCRVX 2100 E.

 

Which one do you suggest?

 

Any advice?

 

What about a tripod and a light?
